Daniil Medvedev's fairytale run continued with a win over Andy Murray in the final of the 2023 Qatar Open to lift his second singles title of the season.
The former World No. 1 clinched the ATP Rotterdam Open last week after beating Jannik Sinner in the summit clash. Medvedev captured his second title on Saturday, beating three-time Grand Slam winner Murray in straight sets. The Russian fired six aces en route to his 6-4, 6-4 win in Doha.
Tennis fans all over the world couldn't hide their excitement at seeing the former Grand Slam winner back in form.
One Twitter user commented that Medvedev's comeback was good for tennis and praised Murray for going toe-to-toe with the third seed of the tournament.
"Two back-to-back titles for Daniil Medvedev. Purely in terms of tennis it’s good to see Daniil Medvedev playing top five tennis again. As for Andy Murray, he’s looking the best he has for years. Playing top 20 tennis again which is great for the sport."
Another fan was ecstatic about Medvedev winning back-to-back titles, saying that the Russian has been in a better physical and mental state than he was last year.
"Daniil Medvedev? CALL HIM MR BACK-TO-BACK. He seems physically and mentally much sharper this season. This is what we’ve waited for. Let’s go for more you legend."
One fan stated that the Russian's recent performances have been his best since the iconic Australian Open 2022 final. Medvedev came very close to winning the Melbourne Major last year, leading by two sets against Rafael Nadal. However, the Spaniard scripted an inspired comeback to win his 21st Grand Slam singles title.
"This is the best Medvedev we have seen since that AO22 final."
Fans continued to show support for the 2021 US Open winner.
"Watching your matches is one of the most pleasurable entertainment for me. Congratulations Daniil !!! Amazing 2 weeks."
