"Grigor Dimitrov gets naked, just for female fans & Bjorn Borg" - Alexander Zverev teases Bulgarian after viral striptease with Novak Djokovic
Alexander Zverev teased Grigor Dimitrov about his viral 'striptease' moment with Novak Djokovic during their exhibition match in Bulgaria a few days ago. The German's playful remarks came ahead of the 2024 Laver Cup, where he and the Bulgarian both will be competing starting September 20, in Berlin, Germany.
Dimitrov is part of Team Europe at the event, joining the likes of Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Casper Ruud. Initially, he wasn't selected for the squad but stepped in as a replacement for Rafael Nadal, who withdrew just days before the tournament began.
Before heading to Berlin, Dimitrov played an exhibition match with Djokovic in his home country at the 'Postbank Visa Tennis Gala.' In a lighthearted moment, both players entertained the crowd by playfully showing off their physiques.
The three-time Grand Slam semifinalist was asked about the incident during a pre-tournament press conference at the Laver Cup, and whether fans could expect a similar display there. He responded with a laugh, saying:
"I was hoping you're not going to mention that one. I'll let the boys decide on that, whatever they want me to do. No, we had a great time with Novak."
Zverev, who was also present at the media interaction, playfully added that if Team Europe won the tournament, Grigor Dimitrov would get "naked" for the female fans and their team captain, Bjorn Borg.
"We win, Grigor gets naked, just for the female fans. And for Bjorn," the German said.
Dimitrov replied:
"No, no, we had a great time with Novak. Honestly, he was such a great sport for that. Just truly happy to be able to establish my foundation in such a way clearly."
"Times is also about that, about the enjoyment, something that is worth it and means something to you. Now I'm on the team with these fellas over here, so I guess whatever I promise I need to deliver. So I better be careful," the former World No. 3 added.
Grigor Dimitrov will kick off Laver Cup 2024 campaign against Alejandro Tabilo
Team Europe's Grigor Dimitrov will kick off his campaign at the 2024 Laver Cup on Day 1, September 20, against Team World's Alejandro Tabilo.
Before their match, Casper Ruud will face Francisco Cerundolo and Stefanos Tsitsipas will take on Thanasi Kokkinakis. The day will wrap up with a blockbuster doubles clash between Carlos Alcaraz/Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz/Ben Shelton.
Dimitrov and Tabilo have faced each other once on the ATP Tour to date. Their encounter took place earlier this year at the Miami Masters, where the Bulgarian triumphed over the Chilean in three sets.
