"Hang it in the Louvre" - Daniil Medvedev reacts to being hilariously captured in an unusual position while contesting must-win match at ATP Finals
Daniil Medvedev reacted to a hilarious photo of himself caught in an unusual pose during a crucial must-win match at the 2024 ATP Finals. Medvedev had previously won the season-ending tournament in 2020 by defeating Dominic Thiem in the title match.
This year, Medvedev is competing in the singles event at the ATP Finals alongside players like Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, and Alex de Minaur.
The Russian was placed in the Ilie Nastase Group alongside Sinner, De Minaur, and Fritz.
Daniil Medvedev began his campaign at the ATP Finals with a defeat in his first group stage match against Taylor Fritz with a score of 4-6, 3-6. However, the former World No.1 bounced back in his second group stage match, defeating Alex de Minaur with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
After the match against De Minaur, a photo of Medvedev in an amusing and unflattering position, in action during the match, circulated on social media.
Embracing the humor, Daniil Medvedev took to social media and jokingly suggested that the photo should be displayed in the Louvre as if it were a work of art deserving of celebration.
“#HangItInTheLouvre," Medvedev posted on X.
Even though Medvedev has complained about the exhausting tennis calendar, alongside other ATP stars, he has looked in good shape in the tournament thus far. He needs to maintain this now more than ever as he faces the World No.1 in his next match.
Daniil Medvedev will face Jannik Sinner in the third group stage match at ATP Finals 2024
Jannik Sinner kicked off his campaign at the season-ending tournament by defeating Alex de Minaur 6–3, 6–4 in the first group stage match. The Italian then continued his winning streak by overcoming Fritz 6–4, 6–4 in the second group match to secure his spot in the third group stage match where he will face Medvedev.
Daniil Medvedev and Sinner have faced each other 14 times on the ATP tour, with each player claiming victory seven times. In 2024 alone, the two players have met five times, with the Russian emerging victorious in just one of those matches - the quarterfinals at the Wimbledon Championships, where he won 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-3.
Their most recent match-up was in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Shanghai Masters, where the World No.1 came out on top with a score of 6-1, 6-4. Sinner then went on to defeat Novak Djokovic 7-6(4), 6-3 in the final to win the title.
