The inaugural Hangzhou Open is just around the corner, with main draw action set to commence on September 18. Holger Rune and Karen Khachanov are the top two seeds and the players to watch out for.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Brandon Nakashima complete the top four seeds in what promises to be a highly competitive draw. Other notable players include Zhizhen Zhang, Marin Cilic, and Fabian Marozsan.
There have also been several high-profile withdrawals leading up to the event. World No. 6 Andrey Rublev was forced to pull out due to illness, while Matteo Berrettini withdrew to participate in the Davis Cup finals with Italy.
Sebastian Korda, Dominik Koepfer, and Alex Michelsen also withdrew, paving the way for players such as Mattia Bellucci, Maximilian Marterer, Luca Nardi, and others.
What is the Hangzhou Open?
The Hangzhou Open is an ATP 250 event on outdoor hardcourts in Hangzhou, China. This is the inaugural edition as part of the ATP tour or the ATP 250 category, replacing the Zhuhai Championships on the calendar.
The Zhuhai event was held twice in 2019 and 2023, with Alex de Minaur and Karen Khachanov winning in those years. COVID-19 played spoilsport between 2020 to 2022.

The Hangzhou Olympic Sports Expo Center in Hangzhou, China will play host to the tournament.
Players & Draw
Holger Rune will lead the line at the 2024 Hangzhou Open as the top seed. He will receive a first-round bye and begin his campaign against either Sumit Nagal or a qualifier in the second round. Similarly, second seed Karen Khachanov will receive a first-round bye and face local wildcard Bu Yunchaokete or Hugo Gaston in his opening match.
Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Brandon Nakashima will receive byes as the third and fourth seeds. Etcheverry will start his campaign against either Corentin Moutet or Roberto Carballes Baena. Brandon Nakashima will face either qualifier Wu Yibing or another qualifier.
Fifth seed Luciano Darderi is set to play Mikhail Kukushkin in the first round, while sixth seed and home favorite Zhizhen Zhang will begin his tournament against a qualifier. Seventh seed Fabian Marozsan will take on Luca Nardi, and eighth seed Yoshihito Nishioka will take Maximilian Marterer on.
Marin Cilic, the third and final wildcard recipient, will open his campaign against American youngster Zachary Svajda.
Schedule
The 2024 Hangzhou Open qualifiers are scheduled for Tuesday, September 17, and Wednesday, September 18, with main draw matches starting September 18. The quarterfinals will be held on Saturday, September 21, the semifinals on Monday, September 23, and the finals on Tuesday, September 24.
