Holger Rune and coach Patrick Mouratoglou part ways after six months
After a six-month partnership, Danish youngster Holger Rune and coach Patrick Mouratoglou have decided to end their association. While Rune will continue to train at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy, the French coach will no longer be traveling with Rune as his head coach. However, Mike James and Lapo Becherini, who are coaches at the Frenchman's academy, will continue to work directly with Rune.
The decision comes after a disappointing North American swing for the youngster. Rune bowed out of the Indian Wells Masters in the Round of 32 after a 2-6, 7-6(5), 5-7, defeat to Stan Wawrinka. His run at the Miami Open ended in the Round of 16 after he lost to Taylor Fritz.
Reflecting on their journey together, both Rune and Mouratoglou expressed great admiration for each other. Mouratoglou praised Rune's energy and expressed his confidence in the youngster's future at the highest level.
The French coach remains confident in the potential of his former protege to perform at the highest level in the future, and stated that he will continue to monitor Rune's progress as he continues to train at the academy.
As his full-time coach, Mouratoglou helped Rune achieve his biggest success so far, winning the 2022 Paris Masters. Rune got past players like Carlos Alcaraz (who retired due to injury), Novak Djokovic, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Andrey Rublev to claim the title.
