Holger Rune wishes "best sister in the world" Alma a happy birthday

World No. 9 Holger Rune took to social media to wish his sister on her birthday. Alma Rune turned 24 on Friday, February 3.

Rune's elder sister is a renowned model on social media. She has been a key figure among the spectators during her brother's matches. Alma grabbed the attention of the media for the first time during the 2022 French Open when the 19-year-old took on Stefanos Tsitsipas in the fourth-round. Cameras panned to the model as she cheered for her little brother.

Rune took to Twitter on Friday to wish "the best sister in the world" on her birthday.

The Dane also sent his birthday wishes to Alma on Instagram.

As far as tennis news is concerned, the 19-year-old will next be in action at the Davis Cup. He will lead Denmark in the World Group 1 fixture against India on Friday.

Reinforced by the support of the home crowd in Hillerod, Denmark, and in favorable conditions on indoor hard courts, Rune will have the upper hand when he takes on Yuki Bhambri in the opening tie.

Rune was last seen in action at the Australian Open where he endured a fourth-round exit, losing to Andrey Rublev in five sets.

Holger Rune's coach Patrick Mouratoglou was impressed by the teenager's performances at the 2023 Australian Open despite enduring a fourth-round exit.

Reflecting on the Dane's campaign at the Majors Down Under, Mouratoglou expressed that Rune has made considerable progress in his game. He also praised the youngster for being courageous and passionate.

"I want to express my admiration for this young player Holger Rune for all the progress he has made. He is courageous, he is full of enthusiasm and energy and he will achieve great things in the future without a doubt,” the 52-year-old wrote in his Instagram post.

Before suffering the heartbreaking defeat against Rublev, Rune registered straight sets wins in his first three matches of the tournament. He beat Filip Krajinovic, Maxime Cressy and Ugo Humbert in the first three rounds respectively.

Owing to his run at the 2023 Australian Open, the Dane is currently placed at a career-high ranking of World No. 9.
