Hours after fielding immense backlash, Nick Kyrgios takes down seemingly derogatory remark aimed at Jannik Sinner's girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya

Nick Kyrgios has deleted his comment on social media that carried a seemingly harsh remark concerning Jannik Sinner's girlfriend, Anna Kalinskaya. He deleted the post a few hours after getting criticized by fans online. Having recently shared strong opinions about the doping controversy surrounding Sinner, the Australian had appeared to take a harsh dig at the Italian's girlfriend, who had previously been Kyrgios' girlfriend.

The comments came following Kyrgios sharing a poll on X (formerly Twitter), asking for fans' opinions on who would win the US Open men's final between Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz.

A fan shared a now-deleted image of Kalinskaya and Nick under the poll, to which the Australian replied, seemingly taking a dig at the Italian's girlfriend.

"Second serve," Nick Kyrgios wrote.

However, he faced criticism from fans on X and deleted the post following this.

The Australian was part of a similar controversy back in 2015. During the Canadian Open, squared off against Stan Wawrinka in the second round, which was marred due to the latter's injury. During the match, Kyrgios made an unsavory comment about Wawrinka's then-girlfriend Donna Vekic. The Aussie's remark was about Vekic and her previous boyfriend Thanasi Kokkinakis being physically intimate.

He was later fined $45,945 and faced a 28-day ban after Warwinka filed a complaint with the authorities, requesting strict action against Kyrgios.

Jannik Sinner on how he would react if Nick Kyrgios interviewed him at US Open

Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner was asked how he would react if Nick Kyrgios was to interview him. Kyrgios is working for ESPN as an interviewer at the tournament and has been critical of the controversy surrounding Sinner's doping case.

The Italian replied it was difficult for him to predict his reaction; however, he would try to move past the situation.

"I don’t know...I don’t want to respond on what he said. Everyone is free to say everything. It’s ok. If that is the case, let’s see. It’s gonna be different for sure."

He added:

"I don’t know what to say. Maybe I say something now and then the reaction will be something else. I’m always quite relaxed. I’m someone who forgets things quite fast. Everyone is free to say everything. It is what it is."

Sinner will be competing in the US Open men's final against Taylor Fritz at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday, September 8.
