How Emma Raducanu's ranking can change after Korea Open 2024: What's at stake for Brit star in Seoul?
Emma Raducanu has already had a pretty good run at the ongoing Korea Open in Seoul, having recently reached the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Brit's performances have already brought her close to a return to the Top 50 of the WTA rankings and there is a chance of her being in the Top 40 if she goes all the way.
Raducanu missed the majority of the 2023 season due to injuries and as a result, was 301st at the start of the 2024 season. While the Brit is yet to win a title this year, she has produced some promising runs that have helped her return to the Top 100 of the WTA rankings.
Emma Raducanu was the World No. 70 when she entered the Korea Open, starting her campaign with a hard-fought 7-6(4), 7-6(5) win over Peyton Stearns in the first round. The Brit then took on eighth seed Yuan Yue and won the first set 6-4.
Raducanu cruised to a 3-0 lead in the second set before the Chinese won the next two games. Yuan saved six match points before the 21-year-old converted her seventh to seal her place in the quarterfinals of a tournament for the fifth time in 2024.
Raducanu's performance at the Korea Open has already seen her rise 16 spots to 54th in the WTA rankings, and she currently has 1025 points. A victory for the 2021 US Open champion will see the Brit reach the Top 50 for the first time in over two years.
If Raducanu reaches the final of the Korea Open, her points tally will be at 1242, which should take her to 44th in the rankings. If she wins the WTA 500 event in Seoul, she will make a return to the Top 40, and will be the World No. 39.
The Brit has won 20 out of 32 matches so far in the 2024 season, reaching the semifinals of the Nottingham Open and the quarterfinals of two WTA 500 events in Washington and Seoul.
Emma Raducanu will face Daria Kasatkina in the quarterfinals of the Korea Open
After beating Yue Yuan, Emma Raducanu will next take on top seed Daria Kasatkina in the quarterfinals of the Korea Open. The Russian booked her place in the last eight of the WTA 500 event after beating Hailey Baptiste 6-4, 6-2.
The quarterfinal fixture in Seoul will be the third meeting between Raducanu and Kasatkina, with the latter currently leading 2-0 in the head-to-head between the two. Their first encounter came in the first round of the AGEL Open in Ostrava, with the Russian winning 7-5, 6-4. The duo then locked horns in the quarterfinals of the Rothesay International in Eastbourne, and Kasatkina won 6-2, 6-2.
Whoever between them comes out on top, will face either fourth seed Diana Shnaider or fifth seed Marta Kostyuk in the semifinals of the Korea Open.
