How much prize money did Rohan Bopanna get despite an early exit in the China Open 2024?

India’s Rohan Bopanna and Croatia’s Ivan Dodig could not enter the men’s doubles quarterfinals in the China Open 2024. On Saturday, September 28, the Indo-Croatian duo lost 5-7, 6-7 (4-7) to Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo and Chile’s Nicolas Jarry.

Cerundolo and Jarry won the match in an hour and 43 minutes. After failing to win the contest, Bopanna and Dodig will earn 15,960 US dollars, the prize money for the teams crashing out in the Round of 16. Had they won the match, they would have assured themselves at least 30,830 US dollars.

The winners of the doubles title in Beijing will get a prize money of 228,510 US dollars while the runners-up will get 121,870 US dollars. The semi-finalists will get 61,660 US dollars as prize money.

Rohan Bopanna fails to survive the heat

Bopanna made his comeback in the China Open after last taking part in the US Open where he played men’s doubles and mixed doubles along with Matthew Ebden and Aldila Sutjiadi, respectively.

He looked out of sorts in the China Open, failing to make an impact. The first set of the match turned out to be a one-sided affair. Cerundolo and Jarry converted one out of the six break point chances they got to close the set out.

Bopanna and Dodig were much more clinical in the second set, not giving their opponents a single chance to break their serve. But they also could not capitalize on the break point chances they got.

The Indo-Croatian duo took the match into a tie-breaker where they eventually threw in the towel. Cerundolo and Jarry got a 6-4 lead after which they closed the match out without having to face many troubles.

Both the pairs pulled off six aces, but a win percentage of 79 from their second serves helped Cerundolo and Jarry win.
