Rafael Nadal earned €51,400 in the singles event at the Nordea Open, and was part of a doubles team that made it to the men's doubles semifinals, which warrants the pair €9,600. The Spaniard was the runner-up at the singles tournament while reaching the semifinals in doubles.
The ATP 250 event in Bastad, Sweden, was Nadal's first tournament since his first-round exit at the French Open. He received entry into the main draw of the singles tournament via a protected ranking and went on to reach the final.
The 38-year-old started with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Bjorn Borg's son Leo in the opening round before ousting fifth seed Cameron Norrie 6-4, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals. Here, he came back from a set down to beat fourth seed Mariano Navone 6-7(2), 7-5, 7-5 and reach his first semifinal since Wimbledon 2022.
Nadal faced Croatian qualifier Duje Ajdukovic and beat him 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach his first final since the 2022 French Open. Here, he locked horns with seventh seed Nuno Borges and suffered a 3-6, 2-6 defeat to the Portuguese.
The Spaniard's runner-up finish in the singles event of the Nordea Open will fetch him a prize money of €51,400. The total prize pool for the ATP 250 tournament is €579,320, with the singles champion earning €88,125 while the doubles-winning team will pocket €30,610.
Rafael Nadal also participated in the men's doubles event at the Nordea Open, where he partnered Casper Ruud. The duo went on to reach the semifinals with wins over Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela and Guido Andreozzi, and Theo Arribage and Roman Safiullin.
They could not go any further as Nadal withdrew from the doubles event to keep himself fit for the singles final. The pair will thus receive €9,600.
Rafael Nadal faced his sixth defeat in the final of an ATP 250 tournament
The Spaniard's defeat in Bastad is his sixth in the final of an ATP 250 tournament (called ATP International from 2004-2009). His first came in 2004 as a 17-year-old, when he lost 6-4, 2-6, 5-7 to Dominik Hrbaty in the final of the Auckland Open. This was his very first title clash.
His second defeat in an ATP 250 final came at the 2008 Maharashtra Open, where Mikhail Youzhny thrashed him 6-0, 6-1. Two years later, the Spaniard lost 6-0, 6-7(8), 4-6 to Nikolay Davydenko in the title clash of the Qatar Open.
His fourth defeat in an ATP 250 final came at the 2013 Chile Open, where he lost 7-6(2), 6-7(6), 4-6 to Horacio Zeballos. Three years later, the King of Clay lost 1-6, 2-6 to Novak Djokovic at the Qatar Open.
