Tennis fans were left feeling amused by Zheng Qinwen 'modeling' and posing for the cameras following her defeat to Coco Gauff in the final of the 2024 WTA Finals. This edition marked Zheng's debut appearance at the season-ending tournament.

Zheng was placed in the Purple Group alongside Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, and Jasmine Paolini. She kicked off her campaign with a 3-6, 4-6 loss to Sabalenka in the first group stage match.

However, Zheng made a strong comeback, securing victories over Rybakina with a score of 7–6(4), 3–6, 6–1, and Jasmine Paolini with a score of 6–1, 6–1 in the second and third group stage matches, respectively.

In the semifinals, the World No. 7 defeated Barbora Krejcikova with a score of 6-3, 7-5 to secure her spot in the final. In the championship match, Zheng narrowly missed out on securing the trophy after losing to Coco Gauff, with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-7(2).

Despite the defeat, what caught the attention of the tennis fans was Zheng Qinwen standing like a 'model' with a stoic expression during the trophy presentation ceremony. This moment amused tennis fans, who took to social media to share their thoughts.

One fan jokingly suggested that all players should emulate Zheng's model-like demeanor after a defeat.

Zheng Qinwen: "The biggest lesson I learn from this season is never let yourself down"

While speaking at a press conference during the 2024 WTA Finals, Zheng Qinwen shared that one of the most valuable lessons she learned throughout the season was to never let herself down in any situation.

"I think the biggest lesson I learn from this season is never let yourself going down, even you make a great result. It's so, so difficult to win the respect of the player, but so easy to lost. Maybe one, two, three tournament you let yourself down, you don't play serious, then suddenly all the respect is gone," Zheng said.

Zheng also said that it is important for her to constantly strive to improve her performance in every tournament she competes in, to maintain her own standards but also to earn the respect of her fellow players

"I learn, even have a great tournament, I need to maintain the level if I go. If not, it's better you don't stand on court," she added.

Zheng Qinwen is the second Chinese player to make it to the final of the 2024 WTA Finals, following in the footsteps of Li Na in 2013, to reach the final at the season-ending event.

Li Na, in 2013 lost to Serena Williams, who claimed her fourth season-ending tournament title.
