"Huge bummer": Coco Gauff's coach Brad Gilbert bemoans dismal experience with 'mechanical issues' on his plane, rues 'mad scramble' for new flight
Coco Gauff's coach Brad Gilbert recently had a dismal travel experience, opening up about the difficulties he faced at the airport due to mechanical issues with his plane. Gilbert laid bare his frustrations with the lengthy ordeal, while the World No. 2 kicked off her singles campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Gauff has set lofty goals for herself at the prestigious event, aiming for medals in singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. The American's coach Brad Gilbert, however, hasn't joined her in the French capital.
Gilbert recently took to social media and chronicled his unfortunate experience with mechanical issues on his flight that were discovered after the doors were shut. He described the situation as a "huge bummer," disclosing that all the passengers were forced to disembark.
The 62-year-old also rued the "mad scrambling" to get on a new flight, expressing regret over his long day.
"Every travelers 𧳠huge bummer, after closing door πͺ mechanical βοΈ issues and have to leave plane βοΈ then the mad π‘ scrambling to get on new flight βοΈ while waiting for new one βοΈ or fix issue = long sunday," he posted on X.
Despite his ordeal, Gilbert stayed updated on Coco Gauff's progress, informing a fan that he was following the score of the American's 6-3, 6-0 win over Australia's Ajla Tomljanovic in the first round of the Paris Olympics.
"π got on livescores," he commented.
Gilbert has endured a series of travel mishaps while accompanying Gauff at her tournaments recently. While in Paris for the French Open earlier this year, the 62-year-old vented about a "shocking" dining experience he had with his daughter Zoe at their hotel, revealing that they were served "raw chicken."
"Need to vent just had a 2+ hr dinner π₯ at my hotel π¨ that was beyond shocking π³ 1st time eating there for dinner in 14 days, took forever and they served Zoe raw chicken π then brought back after 45 mins with same silverware π₯ on table and got everything wrong on my orderβ¦..," Coco Gauff's coach posted on X.
Furthermore, Coco Gauff's coach lamented about the state of hotels in Europe after arriving in London for the World No. 2's Wimbledon campaign, questioning the practicality of the "half glass shower doors" that only resulted in a soaked floor.
"Does anyone have good π explanation ? 3 consecutive hotels π¨ I stayed in Rome Paris now London, why the half glass shower door πΏ seems to only get bathroom floor completely soaked, makes absolutely zero sense, they have have had for over 40 years that I have been coming to Europe," he posted on X.
Coco Gauff's coach Brad Gilbert celebrated "tremendous honor" of American's flag-bearer role at Paris Olympics
Coco Gauff recently made history by being chosen to join NBA superstar LeBron James as the flag bearer for Team USA at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 20-year-old became the youngest athlete to carry the flag for the USA at the prestigious sporting event, as well as the only tennis player to receive this distinction.
The World No. 2's coach Brad Gilbert was overjoyed at the news, expressing his pride in the honor.
"Tremendous honor π ππͺπΊπΈπ," he commented.
After making a strong start to her campaign with a dominant win over Ajla Tomljanovic, Coco Gauff will take on Argentina's Maris Lourdes Carle in the second round of the Paris Olympics.
