Coco Gauff was the defending champion at the 2024 Cincinnati Open but before the WTA 1000 event, she revealed that she was not expecting to win the title. As the second seed, she received a bye in the first round. The American faced Yulia Putintseva in the second round but could not get past the Kazakh as she lost the match 4-6, 6-2, 4-6.

Due to her lost points, Gauff dropped to World No. 3 and Aryna Sabalenka reclaimed the World No. 2 spot that she lost early in June. Following the loss in Cincinnati, Gauff told WTA Tour that she will try to reset for the US Open.

β€œI feel like I have to work on consistency, overall... [I will] probably go home and try to reset... Obviously, I have a lot coming up soon with the US Open, so I think just trying to reset and be ready for that,” Gauff said.

The US Open draw takes place on Thursday, August 22 with the main draw matches beginning on August 26.
