"I don't even have words now" - Emma Raducanu-conqueror Lulu Sun speechless after defeating home favorite at Wimbledon to reach maiden Grand Slam QF

Lulu Sun continued her dream run at the 2024 Wimbledon, fighting her way past home favorite Emma Raducanu in the fourth round. The Kiwi player came through and triumphed 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

Sun, who is playing in just her second Grand Slam tournament, is on an incredible run. She battled through the qualifiers before ousting top-10 player Zheng Qinwen, fellow qualifier Yulia Starodubtsewa and Zhu Lin to set up the showdown against Raducanu.

Understandably emotional after her win on Centre Court, Sun burst into tears during her on-court interview. She later told interviewer Annabel Croft that she was at a loss of words.

The Kiwi player was all praise for her opponent, saying she was expecting a tough battle against Raducanu. She added her opponent dug deep, chased down every ball and fought till the very last, making the victory even more special.

"It was a great match against [Emma Raducanu], and, she really dig deep in there. For me to get the win, you know, I really had to fight to the nail against her because she's obviously gonna run for every ball and and fight until the end," Sun said.
"So I'm just incredibly ... I don't even have the words right now but I'm just..." she added.

Lulu Sun also spoke about the experience of playing at the All England Club’s Centre Court during her Wimbledon fourth-round encounter against Emma Raducanu.

The Kiwi player said she was looking around the halls before walking out onto the court, trying to take it all in. She went on to thank the crowd and the “amazing” experience.

"Well, while walking through the... towards the Centre Court, I was like, wow, I've never seen these halls and I was just like looking around and taking it all in," Lulu Sun said.
"Playing her for the first time, I'm just super happy, and to be able to play on this court against... in front of all of you, it's just such a amazing experience for me," she added.

Sun will next take on Donna Vekic for a spot in the Wimbledon semifinals. The Croat also made her first quarterfinal at the grass court Slam after beating Paula Badosa in three sets.
