"I found it a bit creepy" - Liam Broady on watching himself alongside Nick Kyrgios on Netflix's tennis documentary Break Point
The first episode of the Netflix docuseries Break Point was focused on Nick Kyrgios. Liam Broady, who appeared for a brief period as the Australian's opponent, recently remarked that he didn't enjoy watching himself but was grateful to the makers.
Netflix released five episodes of the docuseries last month. It covered the next generation of players and tournaments in the first half of 2022, starting with the Australian Open.
Speaking to the ATP Challenger Tour recently, World No. 175 Broady shared his experience. He stated that he was nervous about his match against Kyrgios in Melbourne.
"The video footage from Break Point of myself and Nick Kyrgios in the tunnel before walking out on the John Cain Arena, it was a bit of a blur," Broady said.
"Nick obviously was really enjoying it, he enjoys the cameras and he enjoys the show. I was so nervous, I can't really even remember the cameras being there. I was just desperate for any sort of distraction from the match that was about to happen," Broady added.
He added that he was surprised when the home favorite informed him that he was going to be a part of it.
"I didn't really enjoy watching myself on it. It was a bit weird, I found it a bit creepy in a sense. I was quite happy with the part that I got. I didn't think I was going to get in at all, so when Nick told me I was in it before the show came out, I was really surprised. I'm grateful for that," he said.
Broady is currently in Lithuania's capital city Vilnius for a challenger tournament. When asked what he would like to see in a documentary on the challenger tour, the Brit stated that numerous great stories could be covered in America and Asia.
"There has to be a couple of Challengers in North America, Asia, and South America. I think there will be some great stories. There are a few good tournaments in Mexico. I've got some good stories about these places. I just wish that everybody else could see it on Netflix," he added.
Liam Broady praised Nick Kyrgios' connection with his home crowd after Australian Open 2022 R1
Nick Kyrgios was up against Great Britain's Liam Broady in the opening round at the 2022 Australian Open and beat him in straight sets to advance. In the second round, the Australian ace lost to eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev in four sets.
Braody lost 6-4, 6-4, 6-3, and in a press conference after the match, lauded Kyrgios for using the crowd to his advantage.
"Pretty crazy out there. It's a very difficult atmosphere to try and handle. He orchestrates the crowd. He's incredible at getting them behind him. And he played better for it," Broady said.
