"I gotta admit, I was worried" - Andre Agassi, Eugenie Bouchard amusingly claim they confused Andy Roddick with Andy Murray ahead of pickleball clash
Andre Agassi and Eugenie Bouchard recently made hilarious claims of confusing Andy Roddick with Andy Murray ahead of a pickleball clash. Agassi and Bouchard are set to lock horns in the Pickleball Slam 3 with their partners, Steffi Graf and Roddick, respectively.
Pickleball Slam 3 is scheduled for February 16, 2025, at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, USA. Agassi and Graf return to the competition as the defending champions, while Roddick and Bouchard are the new challengers in the event carrying a million-dollar prize money pool.
The participants have been busy with promotional activities in recent days. Andre Agassi and Eugenie Bouchard recently made some light-hearted jokes at the expense of 2003 US Open champion Roddick, who shares his first name with former British star Andy Murray. In one of the videos, Roddick added some remarks that added to the hilarity.
Sitting beside his wife, 22-time Major winner Steffi Graf, Agassi said in a video released on the Pickleball Slam account on Instagram,
"When I heard I was facing Andy in the Pickleball Slam 3, I gotta admit, I was a little worried. I thought it was Andy Murray."
Meanwhile, in a humorous video featuring Roddick and Eugenie Bouchard speaking alternatively, the latter said something similar regarding her American partner. Roddick says in the video that he was the reason Bouchard signed up for the event.
"It’s obvious that having me as a partner was a big reason why Genie wanted to play the slam this year," Andy Roddick said.
"So when I first got the call, I thought it was Andy Murray they were talking about," Bouchard said.
"I wouldn’t say I was ‘the’ reason but it’s probably the reason," the former ATP player claimed.
"I’m not picky, I would even play with Bill Murray," Bouchard added.
"I mean it’s Andy Roddick right," he continued.
"I mean it’s the Pickleball Slam we’re talking about," she stressed.
"You’re welcome," Roddick said.
"Think we actually could get Andy Murray?" Bouchard said.
"Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf are absolutely the underdogs" - Andy Roddick
The mind games between team Andy Roddick and team Andre Agassi are already on with the former commenting on the chances of Agassi and his wife Steffi Graf ahead of Pickleball Slam 3.
In a video posted on the Pickleball Slam account on Instagram, Roddick said,
"Andre and Steffi are absolutely the underdogs. Steffi's great, I will never say anything bad about Stef but they are the underdogs even in the face of Andre playing eight hours of pickleball a day for the last three years of his life. I mean, who thought it would ever come to that?"
Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi will be opponents at Pickleball Slam 3 but were teammates at the event's first edition in 2023. Last year, the two paired up to defeat the pair of John McEnroe and Michael Chang.
