"I keep forgetting to film Simone Biles" - Serena Williams & daughter Olympia watch USA women's gymnastics team reclaim gold at Paris Olympics
Serena Williams and her daughter Olympia were pictured in the audience on Tuesday night catching a glimpse of Team USA in action at the gymnastics event. Simone Biles and the rest of the team didn't disappoint as they kicked off their Paris redemption tour in style by reclaiming the gold.
The 23-time Grand Slam women's singles champion is currently in the French capital with her family attending the Olympics. She added to the stardom at the opening ceremony on Friday alongside the likes of Rafael Nadal, Amelie Mauresmo, and French football star Zinedine Zidane, among others, as they carried the Olympic torch to kick off the 2024 edition.
Williams and her daughter Olympia have been regular features at the events in Paris this week and were once again photographed in attendance at the gymnastics finals on Tuesday, July 30.
Williams shared a picture of herself on social media alongside Olympia watching the action.
"We're at the gymnastics having a good time, yay. I keep forgetting to film Simone and Sunni and everybody because it's like crazy," Williams wrote on Instagram.
Olympia could be seen enjoying eating some chocolate and an apple alongside her mother. She was also seen testing out Williams' makeup brand WYN's lipgloss in another video.
Williams cheered on Simone Biles, Sunisa Lee, Jordan Chiles, Hezly Rivera, and Jade Carey in their successful quest for the gold medal after they relinquished it three years ago in Tokyo. Biles, the star of the team, led them to 171.296 points, above Italy and Brazil. The Americans proved too strong for their opponents throughout the contest and were deserved winners.
With the win, Biles also became the most decorated American gymnast in the history of the Olympics with a total of eight medals, including five golds.
Serena Williams joined by a host of celebrities at gymnastics finals
Serena Williams was among the numerous stars present for the gymnastics finals at the Bercy Arena on Tuesday night. She watched on in awe alongside American sporting royalty in the form of Michael Phelps and former ace gymnast Nadia Comaneci. Phelps was seen capturing Simone Biles' winning moment on his phone.
Stars from Hollywood also turned up, with Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, and Spike Lee in attendance. Kidman, who was in attendance with her family, claimed in an interview (via AP):
“So excited! So excited!”
Biles' husband and NFL player Jonathan Owens was in the stands alongside her mother and father, Nellie and Ron Biles. He was granted leave by the Chicago Bears to be there.
Others present for the gold-medal-winning performance by the Americans at the Paris Olympics included NBC host Savannah Guthrie, former NFL All-Pro Jason Kelce, country singer Keith Urban, and WNBA star A'ja Wilson.
