"I like carrot cake, but it's not crazy, not my favorite" - Jannik Sinner hilariously reveals he didn't eat 23rd birthday cake from Cincinnati Open

Jannik Sinner recently admitted to not eating the carrot cake gifted to him on his birthday. The Italian got the better of sixth seed Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Masters.

Sinner, after just turning 23 on August 16, beat Rublev 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in windy conditions. Following the win, he became the first Italian man to reach the Cincinnati semi-finals in the Open Era.

Before the match on August 17, Sinner celebrated his birthday with a carrot cake from the Cincinnati Open. In an interview with Tennis Channel following the encounter, the 23-year-old admitted to not eating the cake but sharing it with his team instead. He also unveiled his favorite type of cake, saying:

"Oh I didn't actually. I was very happy to share this cake with a lot of people. I like carrot cake, but it's not like crazy. It's not my favorite cake. I like more of a cream and fruit or even chocolate and cream, you know, that's my cake. But, it's alright, it suits me very well, the carrot cake, so I cant' complain."

The World No. 1 also opened up about his match against Rublev, which he found "very difficult."

"I feel like today was very very difficult to play and it was very windy, especially in moments. In moments it was ok, in moments it was very tough and windy. To serve in performance was very difficult," Sinner said.

Jannik Sinner dropped the first set against Andrey Rublev but fought back to win the next two despite the windy conditions. The Italian reflected on the hard-fought victory that "took lot of mental strength."

"It took a lot of mental strength today," Sinner said, as per atptour.com. "It was very tough conditions, very windy. In the first set he started very well and I didn't play my best tennis but in the second set, I felt I had a lot of chances. I waited for my chance. I am very happy to make the semis."

Jannik Sinner will square off against Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Masters on Sunday, August 18.
