"I'm not a guy who drinks" - Jannik Sinner discloses contrasting Cincinnati Open celebration after fellow champ Aryna Sabalenka's "tequila" revelation

Aryna Sabalenka is set to treat herself to some tequila following her Cincinnati Open 2024 win. Fellow champ Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, has decided against following suit.

On Monday, August 19, Sabalenka clinched her second title of the season after her Grand Slam triumph in Melbourne, beating Jessica Pegula 6-3, 7-5 in the final in Cincinnati. Hours later, fellow reigning Australian Open champion Sinner emulated her, winning his first title at the event with an impressive 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory over Frances Tiafoe.

During her interview with Tennis Channel’s Prakash Amritraj, Aryna Sabalenka let fans in on her celebrations, also revealing her drink of choice.

"You know, I'm getting old. There is no more sweets. There is tequila. You got to try margarita. That's, that's the best drink. You have to drink margarita," she humorously revealed.
"Really great one and it’s not that heavy. And it’s a little bit of sweetness so it’s kind of like I’m covering both. So I think that’s my treat after the win," she added in her post-match press conference.

While Sabalenka may share her love for hardcourts with Jannik Sinner, the pair seem to have a contrasting appetite when it comes to alcoholic beverages. When asked about his celebrations by Amritraj, the World No. 1 revealed he isn’t fond of drinks and would instead indulge in some sweets.

"I don’t know yet. Look, I haven’t thought about this – it’s going to be, for sure, a little treat but let’s see. I… I like sweets, so you know, for me that," he said. "I am not a guy who drinks."

Sinner added that he is content with Coke and prefers good company over all else.

"I am more happy when I have a Coke or something easy. But I enjoy it more just to have a good company – that for me is much more important than the rest," he said.

Jannik Sinner routinely celebrates his birthday, August 16, at the Cincinnati Open. In 2021, the Italian was fittingly offered a celebratory “20”-shaped pizza by the organizers. This year, he cut a carrot cake, honoring his famous association with carrots and his fan group, “the Carota Boys.”

The World No. 1, however, recently revealed that he missed out on his birthday cake, presumably due to his strict diet during the campaign. In conversation with Amritraj after his quarterfinal win against Andrey Rublev, Sinner said:

"I didn’t actually (eat the cake). I was very happy to share this cake with all the people."

He also hilariously revealed that he isn’t the biggest fan of carrot cakes despite being popularly linked to the veggie.

"I like carrot cake but it’s not like crazy – it’s not like my favorite cake. I like more when it’s cream and fruit or even chocolate and cream – that’s my cake," Sinner said.
"But it’s alright. It suits me very well, the carrot cake. So I just can’t complain," he joked.

Jannik Sinner will now head to New York for the 2024 US Open, where he is one of the favorites to win his second Grand Slam title and sixth trophy of the season. The Italian’s best result at the tournament so far has been a quarterfinal appearance in 2022.
