"I don't have much time with my parents, so it was very nice" - Jannik Sinner discloses his best off-court moment of 2024, calls his father his "hero"

Jannik Sinner has opened up about how his favorite off-court memory of the season involved his parents. The World No. 1 cherished getting the opportunity to spend some meaningful time with his parents amid his busy schedule.

Sinner is currently in Turin for the 2024 ATP Finals, competing alongside Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Casper Ruud, Andrey Rublev, and Alex de Minaur. Before their opening matches, the players took part in a joint interview with Vogue, where they reflected on their respective seasons.

Jannik Sinner disclosed that his favorite on-court moment of the season was winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open after making an extraordinary comeback from two sets down in the final against Medvedev.

"My first big title, in Australia, my first Grand Slam. Why? Because… because I won," the Italian said.

Sinner's best off-court moment was also tied to his Melbourne Slam, as he relished witnessing his mother Siglinde and father Hanspeter's joy after his victory and enjoyed getting the chance to spend some quality time with them.

"Seeing my parents after Australia—just seeing them happy and spending some time with them. I don't have so much time with my parents, so it was a very nice moment," Jannik Sinner said.

When asked about the person who inspired him outside of tennis, the 23-year-old was quick to call his father his "hero" for his impeccable work ethic.

"My dad, because he's always hard-working. He's my hero," he added.

Shedding light on his plans to unwind during the off-season, Jannik Sinner also disclosed that he would either spend time relaxing by the sea or in the mountains.

"Depends how much time I have—I go to the sea, or I stay in the mountains," he said.

Jannik Sinner has been open about his appreciation for his mother Siglinde and father Hanspeter's steadfast support for his career. In a recent interview for Sky Sport Italia, the World No. 1 acknowledged his good fortune in having "reserved" parents who gave him the independence to choose his own path.

Sinner credited them as the driving force behind his success, emphasizing that while other parents may have pushed him to pursue skiing due to his prowess in the sport, his parents always prioritized his happiness.

"I was lucky to have very reserved parents who always tried to give the best they could. I always had the freedom to choose, even in sports," Sinner said.
"I was much stronger at skiing and maybe other parents would have told me to continue skiing instead of playing tennis. Instead they made me try; told me that they would be happy if I was happy. If I am in this position today it is only thanks to my parents," he added.

Jannik Sinner recently kicked off his ATP Finals campaign with a commanding 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex de Minaur. The Italian will square off against Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz in his remaining group-stage matches as he pursues his maiden title at the year-end championships.
