"I wouldn't be surprised if she got some tears" - Alex de Minaur jokes about winning 'Couple Goals' award with girlfriend Katie Boulter
Alex de Minaur won the ATP Socials 'Couple Goals' award along with girlfriend Katie Boulter. The Aussie gave a hilarious winning speech claiming Boulter would shed a tear upon learning of their triumph.
The ATP Tour's social media account posted a video where they presented De Minaur with a small trophy — the 'Couple Goals' award. De Minaur acted surprised upon receiving the award and then delivered a humorous acceptance speech. He began by saying:
"Wow, this is a dream come true. Honestly, at the start of the year, I had a talk with Katie, I sat her down and I was like 'We need to take this more seriously because we need to win this award'.
"Honestly, I would call her right now and tell her that we've won the award but she's flying, so, it's a shame. I will let her know and I wouldn't be surprised if she's got some tears of excitement running down her face."
The Aussie, who has won two titles this year, uploaded the video on his Instagram Story, further joking:
"Biggest achievement this year! [laughing emoji]"
He even reposted the video on X and tagged his girlfriend Boulter.
Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter, both accomplished tennis players, have been in a relationship for over four years. Early on, they discussed the challenges of balancing their professional commitments with their relationship. In a video released during the Madrid Open, De Minaur said:
"I think what was very important, as well, in the early stages is that we talked about tennis being our number one priority, and we would make all of this work, just finding that balance."
Currently, both tennis stars are on duty. Boulter is set to represent Great Britain in Malaga, Spain while De Minaur is playing in his debut ATP Finals in Turin, Italy.
Alex de Minaur to face Taylor Fritz at the ATP Finals; Katie Boulter to represent Great Britain against Germany at BJK Cup Finals
Alex de Minaur has faced a disappointing debut ATP Finals campaign as he has lost both his Round Robin matches. The Aussie faced a 3-6, 4-6 loss to World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and a 2-6, 4-6 loss to Daniil Medvedev.
With slim chances of qualifying which do not lie in his hands, De Minaur will face Taylor Fritz in the final Round Robin match in the Ilie Nastase Group.
Meanwhile, De Minaur's girlfriend Katie Boulter is in Malaga, Spain, to represent Great Britain along with Emma Raducanu, Harriet Dart, Heather Watson and Olivia Nicholls. The Brits will take on Germany in their first Billie Jean King Cup Finals tie with the winner facing Canada in the quarterfinals.
