"I think I could look better"- Yibing Wu jokes about his modelling ability after defeating Taylor Fritz to reach Dallas Open final
Yibing Wu joked about his modeling abilities in his on-court interview following his semifinal victory over Taylor Fritz at the ongoing Dallas Open.
Yibing Wu has been having a dream run at the ATP 250 event. The 23-year-old started his campaign by defeating American Michael Mmoh. He then took out third seed Denis Shapovalov in the subsequent round and followed up the win with a flawless victory over sixth seed Adrian Mannarino in the quarterfinals.
Wu faced World No. 8 Taylor Fritz in the semifinals of the tournament. He had an opportunity to win the first set at 5-4 with a couple of set points on Fritz's serve, but was unable to convert them. The American then went on to win the first set in the tiebreak.
In the second set, however, Wu managed to break Fritz's serve in the 11th game and served out the set to tie the match. He took an early lead in the final set by breaking Fritz's serve and maintained his lead to win the match with a score of 6(3)-7, 7-5, 6-4.
With this win, Wu became the first male player from China to reach a final on the ATP Tour.
During the post-match interview, it was revealed that Yibing Wu is not only an amazing tennis player but also an amazing model. Fans watching from the stands erupted into cheers when they learned that Wu had taken part in multiple photoshoots. The former Junior No. 1 indulged the fans and struck a pose that was met with loud applause.
When asked if he was more comfortable in front of the camera or when he was on the tennis court, the 23-year-old chose the latter.
"Ofcourse, more on tennis court," Wu replied.
He added that his modeling skills still had some room to improve as he could look even better with hair and makeup, delighting his fans even further.
"I think I could look better maybe. With the hair and makeup, there's always room to improve," the finalist said cheekily.
Yibing Wu is no stranger to being in front of the camera. He recently shared images from his photoshoot with GQ China, where he cut a handsome figure with a smoldering look at the camera.
"That's how it should be," Wu captioned the post.
Yibing Wu will face John Isner in the final of the Dallas Open
Yibing Wu will next take on John Isner in the finals of the Dallas Open. The pair have never faced each other on the ATP Tour before. John Isner defeated J.J. Wolf in the semifinals to book his spot against Wu in the final.
Wu was able to combat Taylor Fritz's strong serve and 20 aces over the course of the match. However, he will face a stronger challenge against Isner, who ranks No. 1 on the ATP serve leaderboard. The Chinese has been utilizing his powerful forehand to create some spectacular winners and will be on the prowl to do the same in the final.
