"I don't want to get ignored again" - Coco Gauff jokes about why she refused to call her brother Codey after French Open win

Coco Gauff recently opened up about why she refused to call her brother, Codey Gauff, after her French Open victory. The win gave the American the second Grand Slam title of her career.

Gauff put together a remarkable run at the French Open 2025, defeating players such as Madison Keys before locking horns with Aryna Sabalenka in the final. After dropping the first set, Gauff dominated the last two to register a 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-4 victory.

During her post-match press conference, Gauff joked about the reason behind not calling her brother Codey after the French Open win. Recalling an incident from the 2023 US Open, where her brother did not answer her FaceTime after her victory, she said that she did not want to be "ignored" again.

However, she added that she did call him later and that he was ecstatic. (4:26 onwards):

"I actually thought about calling him when I was on the bench, but I was like, I don't want to get ignored again. Also, I remembered he had a game that day. I thought maybe he was on the field because I didn't know with the time difference and everything. I called him afterwards, and he was super hyped. He was texting me every day after each match. To have him be here for the ride is the best."

Coco Gauff opened up about representing the US globally after her French Open triumph

After nabbing her second Grand Slam title at the French Open 2025 against Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff made her feelings known about representing the US on the global stage. In the post-match press conference, she acknowledged the situation in her country post Donald Trump's election as president and exuded pride in representing her people in America.

Talking about being a reflection of hope for them, she said:

"Obviously there’s a lot going on in our country right now with things … like, everything, yeah. I’m sure you guys know. But just to be able to be a representation of that and a representation of, I guess, people that look like me in America who maybe don’t feel as supported during this time period … just being that reflection of hope and light for those people," said Coco Gauff.

Gauff was handed a celebratory champagne bottle along with the trophy. Following this, she went out to celebrate her win and jokingly shared a note that going out after winning a tournament should be illegal.

Coco Gauff won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open 2023, where she bested Aryna Sabalenka with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Gauff became the first American to lift the US Open trophy after Serena Williams in 2015.
