Iga Swiatek switches 'F.R.I.E.N.D.S' TV series with 'Modern Family' to wind down at US Open 2024, names her favorite character from sitcom
Iga Swiatek recently shared that she had swapped 'F.R.I.E.N.D.S' TV series for the TV show 'Modern Family' to unwind during the 2024 US Open. She also shared the names of her favorite characters from these American sitcoms.
At the US Open, Swiatek kicked off her campaign by beating lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova 6-4, 7-6(6) and qualifier Ena Shibahara 6-0, 6-1 in the first and second rounds, respectively. Most recently, she defeated 25th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 6-2 in the third round to secure her spot in the fourth.
During the post-match press conference, the World No. 1 shared that she is currently enjoying the American sitcom Modern Family, with her favorite character being Manny because she finds him the "funniest". She also mentioned that she used to watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S, where her initial favorite character was Phoebe, but now it has shifted to Monica.
“I’m not sure, honestly. I think I just started watching it because I wanted something light and it was funny. And who’s my favourite character ? It changes, like, every season, so I can’t really say. It was easier with “F.R.I.E.N.D.S” than with “Modern Family” because I feel like... I think Manny, for me, is the funniest one. When I first watched it, it was Phoebe. When I watched this for the second time, Monica. So, yeah,” Swiatek said.
Iga Swiatek arrived at the New York Slam on the back of a bronze medal win at the 2024 Paris Olympics and reaching the semifinals at the Cincinnati Open. During the WTA 1000 hard court tournament, the World No.1 defeated qualifier Varvara Gracheva and 15th seed Marta Kostyuk in the second and third rounds, respectively.
In the fourth round, she triumphed over Mirra Andreeva before succumbing to third seed and eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals 3-6, 3-6.

Iga Swiatek will take on Liudmila Samsonova in the fourth round of the 2024 US Open.
Samsonova is seeded 16th in the tournament and began her campaign with a solid victory over Qiang Wang, winning 6-2, 7-5 in the first round. She then battled her way to a 3-6, 7-6(1), 6-3 win against Marie Bouzkova in the second round.
In the third round, the Russian dominated Ashlyn Krueger 6-1, 6-1 to secure her spot in the fourth round where she will face Swiatek.
Iga Swiatek and Liudmila Samsonova have met three times on the WTA tour, with the Pole winning all three match-ups. Their most recent encounter was in the final of the 2023 China Open, where Swiatek defeated Samsonova 6-2, 6-2 to claim the title. This victory marked the World No. 1's fifth title of 2023 and her sixth WTA 1000 title overall.
