"Iga Swiatek would’ve got a** whooped back to Poland" - Fans hilariously react to Jelena Ostapenko's dominant Wimbledon 4R win over Yulia Putintseva

Jelena Ostapenko's commanding win over Yulia Putintseva in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships has prompted hilarious references to Iga Swiatek. Fans joked about the World No. 1 dodging a bullet by avoiding Ostapenko with her early exit from the grasscourt Major.

Ostapenko needed just 68 minutes to claim an emphatic 6-2, 6-3 win over Putintseva and book her place in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. Although Putintseva ended Swiatek's run in the third round with an impressive comeback victory, she struggled immensely in the face of the Latvian's aggressive display.

Given Jelena Ostapenko's dominant 4-0 head-to-head record against Iga Swiatek and her resounding win over Putintseva, fans couldn't help but express delight at the World No. 1 avoiding the same fate as the Kazakh.

"Iga would’ve got her a** whooped all the way back to Poland I’m crying," one fan commented.
"Like soooo bad she dodged a bullet honestly," a fan wrote.
"The way we took a small bullet, but dodged a nuclear explosion. Oh MOTHER, we stay WINNING!!!!!!," another fan chimed in.

Fans continued to joke about Swiatek escaping a terrible fate by not beating Putintseva.

"If you still feel sad about Iga losing to Poots, you should be thankful she didn't lose 1-6 1-6 to Penko today," one fan posted.
"Iga was not touching this Penko today 😭," another fan wrote.
"Swiątek with a sigh of relief knowing she avoided the double bagel," said another.

Others, meanwhile, praised Jelena Ostapenko for her stellar campaign so far and backed her to win her maiden Wimbledon title.

"Penko is just rolling straight through these girls. She hasn't lost more than three games in a set so far. 6-1 6-2 6-3 6-0 6-1 6-3 6-2 6-3. I think she finally realized it's better to peak for Wimbledon than Birmingham or Eastbourne. :P," one fan commented.
"I would do anything for Penko to take this slam," another fan shared.
"Penko is winning the title," said yet another.

Following her win over Yulia Putintseva, Jelena Ostapenko will take on Barbora Krejcikova in a blockbuster quarterfinal clash at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The Czech claimed a 7-5, 6-3 win over Danielle Collins to book her place against the 13th seed.

The Latvian enjoys a 5-2 winning record against Krejcikova, including a 7-6(8), 6-4 victory over the Czech in their most recent meeting in the 2023 Birmingham final played on grass.

If Ostapenko triumphs over Krejcikova, she will battle it out against 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina or 21st seed Elina Svitolina in the semifinals of the grasscourt Major.
