Serena Williams-Drake relationship timeline: Their history, husband Alexis Ohanian's involvement, Kendrick Lamar lyric and more
The hip-hop industry has been witness to the intense feud between two of its biggest stars, Kendrick Lamar and Drake, for the better part of the last decade. US tennis icon Serena Willimas has been dragged into this battle between rappers on multiple occasions.
There have been unconfirmed rumors that Williams and Drake might have been dating in 2015. However, in the track "Middle of the Ocean", which Drake launched in 2022, the Canadian rapper seemingly targeted Williams and her husband Alexis Ohanian with some of his verses.
"Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie/ He claim we don't got a problem but/ No, boo, it is like you comin' for sushi/ We might pop up on 'em at will like Suzuki," Drake said.
In response to this lyric, Kendrick Lamar launched his track "Not Like Us", in which he expressed his support for the tennis player and seemingly told Drake not to drag Williams in the feud.
"From Alondra down to Central, n**ga better not speak on Serena," Kendrick Lemar said in his rap.
It is to be noted that Williams and Lamar grew up together in the same locale in the region of Compton.
While hosting the 2024 ESPY Awards this year, Williams expressed her support for Lamar, stating that it was a bad idea for anyone to be involved in a dispute with the American rapper. She stated that Drake had lost his credibility in his hometown due to the feud with Lamar.
"And if I've learned anything this year, not a single one of us, not even me, should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar. He will make your hometown not like you". "The next time Drake sits courtside at a Raptors game, they're gonna Forrest Gump him, seats taken," Serena Williams said during the ESPYs 2024
Williams also went on record earlier with her appreciation for the song "Not Like Us" released by Lamar earlier this year.
Most recently, Drake revealed that his 2016 hit song 'Too Good' was written about Serena Williams, which resulted in the rapper copping a lot of critcism from fans on social media.
Serena William's husband Alexis Ohanian has been repeatedly involved in the Drake-Lamar feud
Serena Williams married Alexis Ohanian in 2017. Due to his direct association with Williams, Ohanian has often been the target of personal attacks by Drake who claimed that the co-founder of Reddit was a "groupie" and all was not well between the pair of Ohanian and Williams.
However, as the feud between the two rappers grew intense over the years with multiple personal attacks made publicly through their music, Ohanian expressed his support for Lamar this May, by sharing a funny GIF on social media.
"Stop, stop he's already dead" read the post
Also, back in 2022, Ohanian seemingly responded to Drake's claim to be a "groupie" by saying that his relentless pursuit of excellence involved being the best groupie for his wife and daughter.
"The reason I stay winning is because I'm relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do - Including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter" tweeted Ohanian.
Ohanian is currently an investor engaged in angel investing through two of his firms "Das Kapital Capital" and "Initialized Capital".
