In Pictures: Elena Rybakina's sister Anna steals the spotlight during Kazakh's Wimbledon QF win with her rollercoaster of emotions on display
Elena Rybakina's sister Anna Rybakina's rollercoaster of emotions is a sight to behold, and seems to have become the new normal every time her younger sibling takes to the court. Anna was once again caught in the spotlight, this time during the Kazakh star's quarterfinal clash against Elina Svitolina at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships on Wednesday, July 10.
Rybakina has ridden a wave of good form at the All England Club this year, and looks to be getting better with every match. She's lost just one set so far, during her second-round encounter against Laura Siegemund.
Rybakina's performance in every other match has been clinical. She dropped a paltry eight games across her other three matches heading into the quarterfinals.
More of the same followed against Svitolina in the last eight, with Rybakina bossing proceedings from the back of the court. She was great on serve but even more relentless on the return, converting four out of the six break-point opportunities presented to her.
Rybakina sealed a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 victory with a blistering ace in just over an hour.
Watching on from her player's box, elder sister Anna was once again photographed in an emotional mangle for most parts of the match.
She displayed a variety of different facial expressions, leaving fans online in splits. Some even questioned how many more tense moments like this she could survive.
Elena Rybakina doesn't like being labeled a favorite for 2nd Wimbledon crown
Elena Rybakina seems well on her way to a second Wimbledon title after her convincing quarterfinal victory over Elina Svitolina. She's the highest-ranked player left in the draw.
But while speaking on Center Court after her victory, the Kazakh star was coy after being labeled as the favorite for the crown.
"I also don't like it to be honest. I have an aggressive style of game. I have a huge serve. It's a big advantage, of course I want to go till the end but match by match. For now I am happy with the way I am going, and I am looking forward to the next one," Rybakina said.
Rybakina will face Barbora Krejcikova next. The 2021 French Open Champion saw off Jelena Ostapenko in their quarterfinal encounter.
Krejcikova leads their head-to-head 2-0 currently. But they last played back in 2022, and it could be a very different outcome this time given Rybakina's form and grasscourt prowess.
