In Pictures: Jannik Sinner's sponsor Gucci launches new tennis fashion collection ahead of Wimbledon 2024
Jannik Sinner's sponsor, Gucci recently unveiled a new tennis fashion collection ahead of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Sinner became the Global Brand Ambassador for the renowned Italian luxury fashion house in July 2022.
Gucci recently unveiled its Tennis Special Collection which draws inspiration from archival designs from the 1970s and that showcases the House's longstanding connection with the sport, which dates back over 40 years.
The tennis fashion line which seamlessly blends tradition with modernity, was crafted by Gucci's new creative director, Sabato de Sarno, who took over from Alessandro Michele in the role. De Sarno's designs drew inspiration from the classic all-white attire worn by tennis players, particularly at Wimbledon, a tournament known for its strict all-white dress code.
The official social media page of Gucci shared a series of pictures from their tennis fashion collection.
The new Gucci tennis collection features a range of pieces, including tennis dresses adorned with the iconic green-red-green web stripe emblematic of the Italian luxury fashion house.
In addition to the dresses, the collection also includes ready-to-wear items, duffle bags, and accessories. The campaign for this collection stars British tennis players Emma Cohen and George Loffhagen.
Notably, World No.1 Jannik Sinner has been spotted carrying custom Gucci duffle bags at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, the 2023 US Open, the ATP Finals and most recently the 2024 French Open.
Jannik Sinner: “Wimbledon last year marked a very special moment, to do it with that Gucci bag felt extra special"
Earlier this year, during a press conference, Jannik Sinner talked about his role as the Global Brand Ambassador for Gucci. He mentioned that he had never previously considered aligning himself with big luxury brands, and still doesn't, but stated that he appreciates the opportunity to be a part of the Italian luxury fashion house.
Sinner said that he values the sense of belonging to a family, meeting new people, and gaining different perspectives that help him grow as an individual.
"I never thought about anything like that when I was younger, I was just trying to be a professional player. I never thought about the big brands, and I still don't. I I love being part of one of the families, meeting new people and having them give me different points of view that make me grow as a person. I respect them a lot, I try to do my best," Sinner said as quoted by Punto de Break (translated from Spanish).
In an exclusive interview with WWD, Sinner also shared that he never imagined he would have the chance to compete at the Wimbledon Championships last year but playing at SW19 and carrying a custom Gucci duffle bag was a "special feeling" for him.
"Wimbledon last year marked a very special moment. I would have never imagined to step into that court in the first place, because it means to have reached a certain level as a tennis player. To do it with that bag felt extra special… And this collaboration with the brand is proceeding in the right direction," he said.
During the 2023 Wimbledon championships, Jannik Sinner, by carrying a Gucci duffle bag on the court became the first player in the tournament's history to flaunt a luxury logo bag.
