Maria Sharapova got engaged to British businessman Alexander Gilkesh in December 2020. Two years later, the couple welcomed their first son Theodore on July 1, 2022.

As a prominent figure in the tennis scene with a demanding travel schedule, she faces the challenges of balancing her career and taking care of her son. However, in an interview with People, she stated that her discipline and lifestyle from tennis enabled her to navigate this busy life.

"I think in some ways there were so many elements of my sport that I could apply into motherhood," she said.
"Just the discipline of the schedules and routines and seeing the benefit of that through their behavior and through their eyes has also been really helpful. When I was playing, knowing where I was going to be and when I was going to nap and when I was going to eat helped me so much with my energy."

The former tennis player and Gilkes got engaged in 2020 after dating for two years.
