In Pictures: Maria Sharapova and fiance Alexander Gilkes go on a captivating winter trip to Venice
Maria Sharapova recently visited Venice with her fiance Alexander Gilkes. The couple had a gala time in the iconic Italian city, and shared a handful of memorable moments from their winter trip.
On Monday, December 16, former World No. 1 and five-time Major winner Maria Sharapova took to her Instagram and posted a combination of videos and pictures from her Venice getaway with fiance Alexander Gilkes. The renowned British auctioner also shared a post, which featured Sharapova and him enjoying their time at the renovated Palazzo Grimani museum.
Maria Sharapova's first post was a video of her experiencing a boat ride on the waters of the Venetian Lagoon. The Russian captioned the post:
"Tis the season to be in... Venice"
Sharapova and Gilkes also experienced authentic Venetian cuisine at the Acquastanca in Murano restaurant.
One of the posts featured Sharapova striking a pose in an all black look.
Gilkes' post was all about his and Sharapova's surreal experience at the Palazzo Grimani, which has been renovated by Toto (Francesco) Bergamo Rossi. The British auctioner captioned the post:
"Lift off at @toto_bergamo_rossi's spectacular renovation of Venice's Palazzo Grimani #Venice"
Maria Sharapova and Alexander Gilkes went public with their relationship back in 2018. In December 2020, the couple announced their engagement, and in July 2022, Sharapova gave birth to their son, Theodore.
Sharapova had visited Venice in the winter of 2023 as well.

Sharapova headed to Venice in the winter of 2023 to chair a board meeting with Moncler, the luxury fashion juggernaut. After her business side of things was done and dusted, the Russian wasted no time in exploring the Italian city.
The former World No. 1 reveled in the splendid views of the Santa Maria della Salute on the Grand Canal's banks. She then visited the Gianni Basso Stampatore museum and the Caffe Florian coffee house in St. Mark's Square.
The five-time Grand Slam champion also did some linen shopping at the Chiarastella Catric store.
During her playing days, Sharapova was regarded as one of the fiercest competitors in women's tennis. She is one of only ten women to have achieved the Career Grand Slam in singles. The Russian called time on her career in 2020 and since then, has been firmly focused on business and family.
