In Pictures: Maria Sharapova shares adorable glimpse of son Theodore enjoying a croissant, cracks up at fiancé Alexander Gilkes' goof-up at playground
Maria Sharapova enjoyed a weekend out with her fiancé Alexander Gilkes and their toddler Theodore. Gilkes was seen trying out a toy machine at the playground and the couple's son savored a croissant.
Sharapova, who regularly shares glimpses of her family on social media, recently took to Instagram to post a picture of her son enjoying a croissant as a 'weekend' treat.
In another story, she shared a video of her fiancé Alexander Gilkes trying out what appeared to be a manual sandbox excavator, which is often found in children's playgrounds.
Since retiring from tennis in 2020, Sharapova has focused on prioritizing her family and has enjoyed her time doing so.
Maria Sharapova "not in a rush" to get married to fiancé Alexander Gilkes after birth of son Theodore
Maria Sharapova was one of the biggest names in tennis during the first two decades of this century, winning five Grand Slam titles and joining an exclusive group of players to achieve the Career Grand Slam.
Sharapova was first spotted publicly with Alexander Gilkes in January 2018, and by October of that year, they made their relationship Instagram official. In February 2020, she announced her retirement from tennis, and later that December, she shared news of her engagement to Gilkes.
Initially, the couple had been planning a "big wedding." However, after Sharapova became pregnant and welcomed their son, Theodore, those plans have taken a backseat. In a June 2024 interview with PEOPLE, the Russian revealed she is not in a rush to get married.
"We were going to have a big wedding and then I got pregnant, and so we haven't actually scheduled a new wedding yet... Perhaps in the next couple of years," Maria Sharapova said.
"Yeah. We're not in a rush (smiling). We're just so excited about Theo, and Alexander also just launched his company recently. So in between work and parenting, there's just so much going on right now," she added.
Theodore was born in July 2022, and the 37-year-old feels she had her first child at the correct point in her life.
“I don’t know if any woman ever knows when it’s time to step into a new phase or motherhood, but I feel like I made the choice at the right time... I feel like I have a healthy distance from tennis. I was ready for a new chapter in life," Sharapova said.
The Russian continues to partner with brands and gets featured on Magazine covers years after her tennis career got over. Most recently, she featured on the cover fashion and lifestyle magazine Numero Netherlands.
