Novak Djokovic to face Lorenzo Musetti in Wimbledon SF, Carlos Alcaraz up against Daniil Medvedev
Novak Djokovic always seems to find his best form at the Wimbledon Championships, where he has won seven titles, and is set to play his 13th semifinal at the grass slam. The Serb was seeded No. 2 at SW19 this year and began his campaign with a blistering 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 win against qualifier Vit Kopriva.
Djokovic faced Jacob Fearnley in the second round, and the British wildcard put up a spirited fight to take a set. The former World No. 1 eventually downed Fearnley 6-3, 6-4, 5-7, 7-5. In the third round, the Serb had to come back from a set down to beat Alexei Popyrin 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (3) before making light work of No. 15 seed Holger Rune in the fourth round, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
Novak Djokovic was set to face ninth seed Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinal, but the Australian pulled out of the match due to an injury. This paved the way for the 37-year-old to progress to the semifinals, where he will face Lorenzo Musetti.
Musetti is seeded No. 25 at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships and reached his maiden Grand Slam semifinal at SW19 after a spirited display in a five-set win against No. 13 seed Taylor Fritz.
Meanwhile, third seed Carlos Alcaraz will play against fifth seed Daniil Medvedev in a repeat of last year's Wimbledon semifinal. The two previously locked horns in the final of this season's BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, with the Spaniard successfully defending his title after beating the Russian 7-6(5), 6-1.
