Serena Williams honored by Philadelphia 76ers as part of Women's History Month
Serena Williams was recently honored by NBA team Philadelphia 76ers as part of Women’s History Month. Multiple members of the team showered her with praise in a heartfelt video. This recognition was a fitting tribute to Williams' remarkable career, which has seen her become one of the most decorated athletes in history.
Shooting guard Shake Milton dubbed Williams the GOAT and stated that she could be the most remarkable athlete in history.
"She's the GOAT, hands down like it's not even debatable. She might be the greatest athlete of all time, period! It takes a tremendous amount of sacrifice amongst other things to be able to do what she does. She's an inspiration," Milton said.
James Harden, who hails from Compton just like Serena Williams, declared the 22-time Grand Slam champion a true sporting icon. He also praised Williams for her remarkable accomplishments and inspiring legacy.
"You know, we're from the same place, both from Compton. So, the amount of distraction is crazy and for her to make it out of Compton and recognize as the best female player to touch a racket and not even just tennis but she's a sports icon, sports legend in general," Harden said.
Serena Williams announced her retirement from tennis last season, culminating in her final appearance at the 2022 US Open. Despite a valiant effort, she was ultimately defeated by eventual quarter-finalist Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round. Williams ended the 2022 season with three wins from seven matches.
