"It's not that hard to let us play tennis"- Danielle Collins hits back at hecklers in a tense moment during her Monterrey Open 2024 2R loss

Danielle Collins recently criticized the crowd for being loud during her Round of 16 encounter against Erika Andreeva at the ongoing Monterrey Open on August 21. Despite being a set down, Erika managed to overcome the American 6-1, 3-6, 3-6 to reach the quarterfinals.

During her match in Mexico against Andreeva, the World No. 11 expressed her displeasure with the crowd in the stadium. While Andreeva was preparing to serve during the final set, Danielle Collins couldn't control her temper as she responded to the hecklers who seemed to be causing distraction during the match.

Unhappy with the situation, Collins said:

"What in the world? I don't get it. It's not that hard to let us play tennis and be supportive," she said.

Before this tournament, Collins competed at Wimbledon last month. Here, she recorded three consecutive wins by defeating Beatriz Haddad Maia, Dalma Galfi, and Clara Tauson before being ousted by 31st seed and eventual Wimbledon Champion, Barbora Krejcikiva in the fourth round.

Danielle Collins fired back at hecklers during 2024 Madrid Open

Danielle Collins faced a similar situation with the stadium crowd while she was competing in the 2024 Madrid Open 3R against Jaqueline Cristian on April 28. Collins made the ideal start to the match by taking the opening set 6-3. However, things took a turn during the second set when a fan tried to distract the American.

Following this, Collins couldn't stop herself from retaliating as she asked the fans to show more respect and also asked them to 'come out and play'.

"You come out and you play. Come out here and do what I do, okay? Have a little more respect," Collins said.

Fresh off after clinching back-to-back titles in Miami and Charleston, Collins overpowered Olga Danilovic in the first round of the Madrid Open. The 30-year-old got the better of the Serbian in two hours and minutes with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(8).

However, she was later ousted by Aryna Sabalenka 6-4,4-6,3-6 in the Round of 16. In January this year, the American announced her decision to retire, stating that this would be her last season.
