"It’s males doing it" - Martina Navratilova expresses dissent over "trans women crimes" being attributed to women
Martina Navratilova voiced her concern and disagreement over the growing trend of attributing crimes to women, particularly those committed by trans women. The former tennis legend expressed her protest after a 53-year-old from Ryde, UK was caught on the street with a Samurai sword.
On August 2, 2024, an alleged trans woman Kelsea Broadfoot of School Street was spotted on the street with a Samurai Sword with her trousers down around her ankles. Being under the influence of alcohol, Broadfoot was arrested on suspicion of multiple offenses and pleaded guilty at the IW Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
The convict's 66cm long sword was later destroyed by the court. While defending Broadfoot, Oscar Vincent stated that leading up to the event, the defendant was verbally humiliated and abused because of the "lifestyle choice."
After a fan highlighted a news article that referred to Broadfoot as a "woman" and suggested that there is an increase in crime rate by women, Navratilova took a jab and responded with sharp criticism.
To which Navratilova replied:
"Exactly what I said years ago- all of a sudden we will see a spike in 'women’s' crime. When it’s males doing them still."
A fan replied to Navratilova's post, calling her "a bigot":
"there’s literally no evidence of a spike in female crimes, and also no evidence that trans women are committing a statistically higher portion of crimes. you’re just a bigot"
Navratilova replied to the comment and wrote:
"Trans women crimes will count as women when in fact it’s males doing it. The statistics just haven’t caught up yet. Who is the bigot here?"
"I am pro women" - Martina Navratilova clears her stance following the accusations of being "anti-trans"
After expressing her resentment over the mentioning of Kelsea Broadfoot as a woman, Martina Navratilova received backlash, with one of the X users calling her "anti-trans."
The former World No.1 expressed her disbelief that the person didn't seem to be indifferent to women and wrote:
"I am a little surprised you don’t care about women."
"You said I was anti trans. I am not anti trans- I am pro women. Pro women sex based spaces. That is not anti anything," Navratilova added in another post.
The former American tennis player has consistently voiced her condemnation of transgender athletes competing in women's sports.
