"James bond is watching my son" - Andy Murray's mother Judy revisits fond memory of Sean Connery watching Brit's debut on Center Court at Wimbledon
Andy Murray's mother Judy fondly revisits the time Sir Sean Connery watched her son play on the Center Court during Wimbledon 2005. She recalled how one of her eyes was on the match while the other was focused on the James Bond star.
The Lawn Tennis Association recently paid tribute to Murray on his illustrious career through his mother Judy, wife Kim, and brother Jamie where his family recounted some of the Brit's hilarious escapades.
Judy talked about a story from the 37-year-old's initial years as a professional when the young Brit expressed his desire to play at the Center Court to his mother, which she laughed off at the time.
Judy said:
"I remember the weekend before the tournament started and we walked past the Center Court, and of course, it's quite deserted on the weekend before so there's no crowds in and he (Murray) went ‘I want to play in there mom’ and I said ‘you might have to wait a few years for that’ and then he went by and I just laughed".(at 4:54)
However, a week later, the two-time Wimbledon champion made his Center Court debut against David Nalbandian in the third round which left Judy, who was in the player's box, in complete shock.
"And there we were a week later, he was on that Center Court on middle Saturday playing David Nalbandian, who was the World No. 4 and I remember where I was sitting in the player box and thinking of all the time I've watched the highlights at Wimbledon and seen people in the player box and never would've ever imagined I would want to sit in there watching my kids play."
Andy Murray's mother also mentioned how she was shocked when she saw Sean Connery, who is famous for playing James Bond, in the Royal Box watching her son play.
"With my right eye I had, I was on the court and my left eye was on the Royal Box because Sean Connery was in there and there was this whole thing of thinking James Bond is watching my boy playing tennis and I couldn't quite get over that."
Murray lost the match in a five-set thriller bringing an end to his debut campaign at SW19.
Andy Murray's mother Judy went 32 years back in time to revisit her son's first match after retirement at 2024 Paris Olympics
After his final campaign as a professional came to an end after his defeat at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Andy Murray's mother Judy took to X to post an image of her son from his first match at the age of 5 and his last match at the Olympics at the age of 37. The latter also included Dan Evans, who was the Brit's partner at the event.
Judy tweeted:
""First match age 5. Last match age 37".
Andy Murray and Dan Evans won their opening two rounds saving five match points and two match points respectively, but fell to Team USA's Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul in straight sets in the quarterfinals, which marked the end of the Brit's illustrious career.
