Jannik Sinner achieves record Carlos Alcaraz hasn't after reaching US Open SF; joins Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal

Jannik Sinner advanced to the US Open semifinals, thus attaining the feat of reaching at least the final four at each of the four Grand Slams, something his rival Carlos Alcaraz is yet to achieve. Sinner got the better of fifth seed Daniil Medvedev to reach his first-ever semifinal at the New York Major.

The Italian and the Russian shared the first three sets in a one-sided manner with Sinner winning two. In a more competitive fourth set, the World No. 1 triumphed again to win 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Incidentally, by advancing to the final four at the New York Major, Sinner became only the fourth active player to reach the semifinals of all Grand Slams. He achieved the feat at Wimbledon last year and replicated it at the Australian Open and French Open this year. The other three active players who have achieved the feat are Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Marin Cilic.

Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz is yet to reach the semifinal of the Australian Open. He has not only reached the semifinal but won the other three Grand Slams, however, his best finish in Melbourne is a quarterfinal exit.

Althogh Jannik Sinner has reached the semifinals of all the Grand Slams before Carlos Alcaraz, the World No. 1 still a few titles short of the Spaniard's title count.

Alcaraz has won four Grand Slam titles so far in his career, with his first coming as a teenager by defeating Casper Ruud in the final of the US Open in 2022. The Spaniard's second Major came in 2023, when he beat Novak Djokovic to win that year's Wimbledon.

He won two Grand Slams in 2024 at the French Open and Wimbledon, beating Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic in the respective finals.

Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner has won just one Major, which came at this season's Australian Open. The Italian came back from two sets down to defeat Daniil Medvedev in the title clash.

Sinner's semifinal clash at US Open 2024, will be against 25th seed Jack Draper, who reached the final four of a Major for the first time in his career by beating tenth seed Alex de Minaur 6-3, 7-5, 6-2. Whoever wins, will take on either 12th seed Taylor Fritz or 20th seed Frances Tiafoe in the final.
