Jannik Sinner next tournament: All you need to know about the Italian's schedule following his withdrawal from the Paris Masters
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has pulled out of the ongoing Paris Masters due to a gastrointestinal virus on Tuesday, October 29. He was the favorite to add yet another Masters title to his ever-growing collection of trophies. He had also won the last two Masters tournaments, the Shanghai Masters and the Cincinnati Open.
Sinner is expected to recover and be fit for his next tournament, the ATP Finals, which will take place from November 10-17. He was the first player to qualify for the year-end championships, and his spot was confirmed on August 10. This was possible because of his triumph at the Australian Open, along with semifinal finishes at the French Open and Wimbledon.
The Italian also won titles in Rotterdam, Miami, and Halle, which contributed to his early qualification for the ATP Finals. He didn't slow down after he punched his ticket to the season-ending championships and went on to win the US Open as well. He has also sealed the year-end No. 1 ranking in his favor.
Sinner also took home the biggest payday in the history of tennis following his triumph at the Six Kings Slam, an exhibition event in Saudi Arabia. He earned a record-breaking $6 million in prize money for winning the tournament. The 23-year-old will now get some much-needed rest and get back in shape for the ATP Finals.
Jannik Sinner gunning to win the ATP Finals for the first time
Jannik Sinner will be keen to wrap up a fantastic season with a triumph at the ATP Finals. He came quite close to doing so last year but came up short against Novak Djokovic in the final. He had previously beaten the Serb in the group stage, though getting the better of him twice within a week proved to be too much for him.
However, Sinner hasn't lost to Djokovic since then. He beat him in the Davis Cup Finals a few days later, and then in the semifinals of this year's Australian Open and in the final of the Shanghai Masters as well. He also handed him a defeat at the Six Kings Slam.
Following his ATP Finals campaign, Sinner will spearhead the Italian challenge at the Davis Cup Finals, where they are the defending champions. He remained unbeaten in both singles and doubles last year. The tournament will be held in Malaga, Spain, from November 19-24.
