"Jannik Sinner's too mature" - Fans amazed by Italian's response to potential Nick Kyrgios interview at US Open amid controversial take on doping row

Tennis fans praised Jannik Sinner's reaction to Nick Kyrgios potentially interviewing him at the 2024 US Open amidst the Australian's controversial stance on the doping scandal involving the Italian. Following the revelation of Sinner's doping controversy, Kyrgios has been vocal in his criticism of Sinner, even calling for a two-year ban for the World No.1.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Sinner had tested positive for the banned steroid Clostebol twice during the 2024 Indian Wells Masters. Sinner claimed that his physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi, unknowingly applied trace amounts of clostebol to his body during a massage.

After an investigation conducted by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) it was determined that the Italian was not at fault and bore 'No Fault or Negligence' for the Anti-Doping Rule Violations.

Currently, Jannik Sinner is competing at the 2024 US Open where he kicked off his campaign by defeating Mackenzie McDonald 2-6, 2-6, 1-6, 2-6 in the first round. In the second round, he triumphed over Alex Michelsen in one hour and 40 minutes to clinch his 50th win of the season.

Following his victory over Michelsen, Sinner was asked about potentially getting interviewed at the New York Slam by Nick Kyrgios, who has been critical of him and the ruling over his doping row.

Sinner, in response, said that everyone is entitled to their opinion and that he chooses not to engage with Kyrgios' criticisms. He said that he is someone who forgets things fast and moves on quickly from negative situations

"I don’t know. I don’t want to respond on what he said. Everyone is free to say everything. It’s ok. If that is the case, let’s see. It’s gonna be different for sure. I don’t know what to say. Maybe I say something now and then the reaction will be something else. I’m always quite relaxed. I’m someone who forgets things quite fast. Everyone is free to say everything. It is what it is," Sinner said.

Jannik Sinner acknowledged that the timing of his doping scandal surfacing before a Grand Slam was less than ideal. The World No.1 maintained that he was innocent and expressed that he respects the rules of the ATP tour and their anti-doping regulations.

“Of course, it’s not ideal before a Grand Slam but in my mind, I know that I haven’t done anything wrong. I had to play already months with this in my head, but just remembering myself that I haven’t done really anything wrong. I always respect these rules, and I always will respect these rules of anti-doping,” he added.

Tennis fans were impressed and amazed by Jannik Sinner's response to the possibility of being interviewed by Nick Kyrgios. They took to the tennis subreddit to express their delight and share their opinions on the same.

One fan remarked that Jannik Sinner exudes a level of maturity that surpasses Kyrgios.

"Jannik is too mature for Kyrgios. Nick is yapping in the void lol," a fan posted on Reddit.

Another fan noted that the Italian player is "unbothered" by Nick Kyrgios' criticisms.

"Unbothered king 👑 ," a fan wrote.

A fan claimed that Kyrgios has been attempting to provoke a reaction from Jannik Sinner by taunting him and bringing up his doping scandal, but the Italian has remained composed and unaffected.

"Nick is clearly trying to bait Jannik into attacking him in a press conference so he can spend the next year and a half going on about how the top players are scared of him or something," a fan posted.
"He just said "who cares" in polite words," a fan wrote.

One fan pointed out the stark contrast between Jannik Sinner's handling of his doping scandal and Alexander Zverev's handling of his case of domestic abuse allegations.

"The difference between how Sinner and Zverev have handled their scandals are night and day lol," a fan posted.

Several fans expressed that Jannik Sinner appears unperturbed by Kyrgios' criticisms.

"He’s so pissed off, you can tell he’s about to knock over a water bottle and pick it back up," a fan wrote.
"He does not give 2 sh*ts LMAO," a fan posted.
