Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova will contest for the big prize at 2024 Wimbledon, which will host the women’s singles final on Saturday. While Krejcikova has one Grand Slam title in the form of the French Open, the former is yet to win a Slam.
That does not take away from Paolini’s exploits over the week and make her any less of a contender. She needed to dig deep against Donna Vekic to prevail 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(8) in the longest women’s singles semifinal in tournament history.
Besides, the Italian has made quick work of Bianca Andreescu and Emma Navarro. She did face stiff resistance from the big-hitting Madison Keys in the fourth round, but came through after the American was forced to pull the plug on the contest citing injury.
Krejcikova, meanwhile, logged her first top-15 win of the season against Danielle Collins in the fourth round before ousting Jelena Ostapenko in the quarterfinals. She had earlier taken out the likes of Veronika Kudermetova and Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.
The duo have met on the tour only once, with the Czech winning their Australian Open qualification match in straight sets way back in 2018.
