Jelena Ostapenko enjoys a "great day" by the river in Latvia with friend ahead of Paris Olympics

Latvian tennis player Jelena Ostapenko is enjoying her time away from the court during the summer. After a competitive Wimbledon campaign, she shared pictures from the beach with a friend. The 27-year-old seems to have spent some time at the beach recently, away from the bustle of professional tennis courts.

As indicated by her pictures, she was recently at Lielupes Baltā Kāpa, near the Latvian capital Riga. She and her companion can be seen by the beach in one photo. Ostapenko has had a mixed year so far, including problems on the court with her coaching staff and inconsistent performances.

The 2017 French Open champion posted a group of photos on her Instagram stories with a friend captioned,

"Great Day off"

The 27-year-old reached the quarter-final rounds in both her singles and doubles campaigns at Wimbledon and then returned home to prepare for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she will be representing Latvia.

Ostapenko has struggled to create a mark at the Olympics so far. Her 2016 singles campaign saw her leave the competition after the first round. She saw the same fate in her 2020 singles and doubles attempt.

During her title-winning campaign at the 2017 French Open, she hit 299 winners through the tournament to win the title. If she can find her old explosive playing style in PAais again, she could cause major upsets at the game and bring Olympic glory home for Latvia.

Jelena Ostapenko caused a stir in the middle of her Wimbledon 2024 quarterfinal match against Barbora Krejcikova, as she ejected her coach from the players' box in a dramatic mid-match incident. The Latvian star is known for her fiery on-field presence, but this time her coach was on the receiving end of her frustrations. Ostapenko had been leading the second set 4-3 after losing the first and got increasingly agitated as Krejcikova made a comeback.

During a changeover, she gestured emphatically towards her box, signaling for someone to leave, which was met with initial confusion but resulted in her coach Stas Khmarsky exiting the arena. As she continued the match without his presence, she lost momentum and the next four games to Krejcikova. This loss halted her hopes of equalling her best Wimbledon performance while also mirroring similar previous instances, much like in the Australian Open earlier this year.

Ostapenko's unpredictability continues to put the spotlight on her. As she prepares for the Paris Olympics 2024, she would be looking to perform with consistency and focus and bring glory to Latvia.
