Jessica Pegula sends champagne to Lyudmyla Kichenok with heartwarming message after she reveals postponing her wedding due to US Open doubles triumph

Jessica Pegula recently sent champagne to Lyudmyla Kichenok, along with a heartfelt message, after the Ukrainian revealed that she postponed her wedding due to her 2024 US Open doubles title-winning campaign, which she won alongside Jelena Ostapenko. Kichenok has been engaged to Ostapenko's coach, Stas Kumarsky.

Kichenok and Ostapenko were seeded seventh in the doubles event at the New York Major. They kicked off their journey by defeating the American wildcard pair of Jessie Aney and Jessica Failla 6-3,6-3 in the first round.

The Ukrainian-Latvian pair then went on to conquer the pair of Jiang Xinyu and Makoto Ninomiya and the 12th-seeded duo of Beatriz Haddad Maia and Laura Siegemund in the second and third rounds, respectively.

Lyudmyla Kichenok and Jelena Ostapenko emerged victorious over the pair of Anna Danilina and Irina Khromacheva in the quarterfinals and secured a 6-1, 6-2 win over the pair of Chan Hao-ching and Veronika Kudermetova in the semifinals.

In the final, Kichenok and Ostapenko defeated Kristina Mladenovic and Zhang Shuai 6-4, 6-3 to clinch the 2024 US Open doubles title. It was their first Grand Slam title and fifth team title overall

After winning the US Open doubles title, Lyudmyla Kichenok shared that she had to postpone her wedding to Stas Kumarsky due to her success in reaching the penultimate rounds of the tournament. She also took to social media to express her gratitude towards Jessica Pegula, who sent her a heartwarming note and champagne to celebrate her title win and her upcoming wedding.

"I saw you were supposed to get married on Wednesday! Congrats on a great tournament and enjoy your wedding!," Jessica Pegula wrote on the note.

Jessica Pegula will be aiming to win her first Grand Slam title at US Open 2024

Jessica Pegula entered the 2024 US Open on the back of brilliant performances in two WTA 1000 hard-court tournaments, the 2024 Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open. She claimed the Canadian Open title by defeating Amanda Anisimova in the final and followed it up with a runner-up finish at the Cincinnati Open, falling to Aryna Sabalenka in the final.

Seeded sixth at the New York Major, Jessica Pegula kicked off her campaign with wins over fellow Americans Shelby Rogers in the first round and Sofia Kenin in the second. She continued her winning streak by defeating Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-3, 6-3, and 18th seed Diana Shnaider 6-4, 6-2 in the third and fourth rounds, respectively.

The World No.6 then went on to defeat top seed Iga Swiatek 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals and KarolĂ­na Muchova 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals to secure her spot in her maiden Grand Slam final.

In the championship match on 8th September, Jessica Pegula will go up against second-seed Aryna Sabalenka. The two have met seven times on the WTA tour, with Pegula winning only two of those seven match-ups. Their most recent match was in the final of the 2024 Cincinnati Open, where the Belarusian emerged victorious with a 6-3, 7-5 score.
