"Knew I have found someone I was going to spend the rest of my life with" - Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian gushes over his 'special' wife
Serena Williams' husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, offered a glimpse into their romance as he raved about his wife in a recent interview.
On March 27, Alexis Ohanian attended the season opener of the NWSL team Angel City FC against Gotham FC. Angel City FC is partly owned by Ohanian, Serena Williams, and their daughter Olympia.
While attending the match, in an exclusive interview with E!, Ohanian expressed that having Williams as a partner is a constant source of motivation for self-improvement. He also recalled knowing that he wanted to spend his life with her because he believed that she was someone he would never outgrow.
"Having someone as special as Serena as a partner is a consistent reminder of self-improvement. I knew I have found someone I was going to spend the rest of my life with because she was someone who I knew I would never outgrow," he said.
The 39-year-old highlighted how his relationship with Serena Williams differed from all his past relationships as being with the 23-time Grand Slam champion allowed him to constantly better himself. He also stated that having a child with her is an added advantage, given that he gets to guide and mentor their daughter Olympia to be the best version of herself.
"Here was something where I got to spend the rest of my life just trying to get better. Obviously, having a child with her is a cheat code, because you really understand the opportunity you have to speak all of that into someone who you want nothing more than the best for," he added.
Serena Williams and husband Alexis Ohanian hope to empower daughter Olympia with Angel City FC documentary
In the same interview, Alexis Ohanian shared his and Serena Williams' endeavor to set an example for their daughter Olympia, especially with the upcoming HBO docuseries Angel City. The series, which will chronicle the development of Angel City FC, is scheduled for release in May.
"I hope Olympia sees it," Ohanian said.
Ohanian had previously credited a challenge from Serena Williams as the motivation behind the birth of the football club. He recalled an incident where he had expressed his desire to see Olympia play for the women's national team. However, Williams responded immediately and challenged him to ensure that his daughter is paid what she deserves before considering such an opportunity.
"And Serena without missing a single beat said, 'Not until they pay her what she's worth.' I was like, alright, challenge accepted, let's see if I can do some things to help," he said at the time.
While attending the match between Angel City FC and Gotham FC, Ohanian cheered on debutant Alyssa Thompson for scoring her first goal for the club.
