Laver Cup 2024: Players, format, venue, prize money and current champions

Laver Cup 2024 will be the seventh edition of the tournament and it will commence on September 20 in Berlin. It will be the last time John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg will captain Team World and Team Europe, respectively.

Team World is the defending champion, having won the last two editions of the tournament. However, the side could have a tough time trying to win their third successive title, considering the quality of Team Europe, who have the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev, among others.


Laver Cup 2024: Players and format

This year's tournament will feature 12 players, six in each team. Team Europe consists of Carlos Alcaraz, who will make his Laver Cup debut. Casper Ruud is the only player from 2023 who is part of the team this year as well, while World No. 2 Alexander Zverev returns to the tournament after missing the last two editions.

Daniil Medvedev will make his second appearance at the Laver Cup, while Stefanos Tsitsipas will make his fourth. Grigor Dimitrov completes Team Europe, and he will appear in the tournament for the first time since 2018.

Four players from 2023 will feature for Team World this year as well. Taylor Fritz is the highest-ranked player for Team World in the tournament and he will make his fourth appearance. Frances Tiafoe is the most seasoned campaigner on the team, as he will appear in the exhibition event for the fifth time.

Ben Shelton and Francisco Cerundolo will both make their second appearance in the tournament, while Thanasi Kokkinakis and Alejandro Tabilo will both make their debut.

According to the competition's format, each day will have three singles matches and a doubles match. Each win is worth one point on the first day, two points on the second day, and three points on the final day. Whichever team reaches 13 points first will be adjudged the winner.


Venue

The Uber Arena in Berlin will be the venue for Laver Cup 2024. This is the first time the competition will take place in Germany.


Prize Money

The total prize money of the tournament is $2,250,000, with members of each winning team pocketing $250,000 while those from the losing side earning $125,000.


Current Champions

Team World is the defending champions at the Laver Cup, having comprehensibly beaten Team Europe 13-2 in the 2023 edition of the tournament. It was their second successive title.

Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Tommy Paul, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Francisco Cerundolo, and Frances Tiafoe were all part of the winning team. They only lost one match throughout the entire tournament, which was Paul being beaten by Casper Ruud.
