Leylah Fernandez comes up with sarcastic reply after fan mockingly calls her "social network pro"

Leylah Fernandez, one of the most exciting young stars in the world of tennis, recently came up with a sarcasm-rich comment on social media in reply to a fan.

The 20-year-old Fernandez has a strong presence on social media across platforms, and likes to interact with her fans regularly. She also frequently posts interesting photographs and videos of herself and her family members.

But while the majority of her followers enjoy and react positively to her posts, there are a few who try to belittle the youngster.

Fernandez recently posted a video on her Instagram account and poked fun at how different tennis players appear in their photographs off the court and during their matches. She included four photographs of herself in which she was nicely dressed and had her makeup on, followed by four in-action photographs from matches where she could be seen drenched in sweat.

One fan left a comment on the post, suggesting that the player was more interested in social media than in tennis. The fan also claimed that she would lose her sponsorship deals unless she started to win matches.

"You've become a social network pro but cannot win matches. All your deals will disappear without wins," they said.

To this, Leylah Fernandez replied:

"Well aren’t you delightful with some great insights."

The World No. 39, who turned pro in 2019, shot to fame when she reached the final of the 2021 US Open at the age of 19. Before losing to Great Britain's Emma Raducanu in the summit clash, Fernandez defeated four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber and 2023 Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka.

Leylah Fernandez started the 2023 season as the World No. 40. The first tournament that she played was the WTA 250 ASB Classic, where she was the third seed.

After winning her first two matches in straight sets, the Canadian lost to the unseeded Ysaline Bonaventure in the quarterfinals.

At the 2023 Australian Open, Fernandez was ousted by the 2022 WTA Finals winner Carolina Garcia in the second round. Her next assignment was at the WTA 500 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, where America's Shelby Rogers defeated her in the opening round.

Fernandez's last tournament was the WTA 500 2023 Qatar Open, but she wasn't a main draw player there and was required to win three qualifiers. While the 20-year-old won the first two of those, Karolina Pliskova beat her in the third.
