Lorenzo Musetti's girlfriend Veronica Confalonieri celebrates his recent success, calls him 'unique' ahead of Paris Olympics SF against Novak Djokovic
Italy's Lorenzo Musetti has been in red-hot form over the past few months as he reached multiple finals and achieved his best Wimbledon run with a semifinal exit. The Italian has also reached the semifinal of the 2024 Paris Olympics and his girlfriend Veronica Confalonieri celebrated his successful season before he takes on Novak Djokovic.
In January, Musetti achieved his first win in the main draw at the Australian Open in his third attempt. However, he lost in the second round. In the French Open, he played an extraordinary five-setter against Djokovic in the third round but was defeated by the Serb. He reached the semifinal of the Stuttgart Open before finishing runner-up at the Queen's Club Championships.
In July, he reached the Wimbledon semifinal but it was the 24-time Grand Slam winner who denied him again. Musetti continued his good form and finished runner-up in Umag before participating in the Paris Olympics. The 22-year-old has been dominant at the Olympics with straight-set wins over Mariano Navone, Taylor Fritz and Alexander Zverev to reach the semifinal.
Musetti's girlfriend Veronica Confalonieri reposted a story on Instagram celebrating his achievements. She wrote 'Sei unico' in Italian which translates to 'You are unique'.
Lorenzo Musetti also had cause for celebration in his personal life in 2024. He and Confalonieri announced the birth of their first child, son Ludovico, in March.
Lorenzo Musetti will face Novak Djokovic for the fourth time this season at Paris Olympics 2024
Lorenzo Musetti has faced Novak Djokovic seven times in his career with the Serb winning six of those matches. The pair has faced off three times in 2024 and the World No. 2 has won all those matches.
Their first encounter in 2024 came at the Monte-Carlo Masters in the Round of 16. Djokovic won the match in straight sets.
Weeks later they faced each other again in the third round at the French Open. Musetti fought valiantly and led the sets 2-1 but the Serb came back to win 7-5, 6-7(6), 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.
They next met at Wimbledon less than a month ago in the semifinal of the grass Slam. The Serb was dominant again with a 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-4.
Their fourth battle this year and eighth overall will take place on the Court Philippe-Chatrier on Friday, August 2. The winner of the semifinal will take on Spain's Carlos Alcaraz in the gold medal match while the loser will face Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime in the bronze medal match.
