"Love to see it" - Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian congratulates Andy Murray on reaching Qatar Open final
Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian has congratulated Andy Murray on reaching the Qatar Open final.
Murray produced a gritty and resilient performance to beat Jiri Lehecka 6-0, 3-6, 7-6(6) and book his place in Saturday's title clash in Doha. He saved five match points before winning in a third-set tie-break.
Murray's performance has been commended by many, including Serena Williams' husband Alexis Ohanian. The Reddit co-founder took to Twitter to lavish praise on the former World No. 1.
"Love to see it. Congrats @andy_murray — onward!!" Ohanian tweeted.
The Murray and Williams families are no strangers, having teamed up for mixed doubles events in the past.
Andy Murray partnered Serena Williams at the 2019 Wimbledon Championships and the pair reached the third round before losing 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 against Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Bruno Soares.
Last season, Venus Williams and Jamie Murray teamed up for the mixed doubles event at Wimbledon and reached the second round by beating Michael Venus and Alicja Rosolska 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3. They were ousted in a thrilling encounter, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (18-16), by Alicia Barnett and Jonny O'Mara.
Andy Murray will face Daniil Medvedev in the Qatar Open final
Andy Murray will take on Daniil Medvedev in the final of the Qatar Open on Saturday. It will be the third meeting between the pair, with the Russian leading 2-0 in the head-to-head. Their last encounter came in the second round of the 2022 Miami Masters, with Medvedev winning 6-4, 6-2.
Medvedev booked his spot in the Qatar Open final with a 6-4, 7-6(7) win over Felix Auger-Aliassime. He praised Murray in his post-match press conference and said he was hoping for a "great match" in the final.
"Yeah, amazing. The way he played there, the way he won his matches, is just unbelievable. Today I don't think anyone could have thought about it when it was 5-4, 40-Love," Medvedev said.
"We do have sometimes comebacks in tennis, but usually not one tournament where you save three match points and you beat Zverev 7-5 in the third, save five more match points. Andy is amazing, and I'm going to have to be at my best from first to last point tomorrow to try to get the win, and I'm hoping for a great match," he added.
Victory for Murray would see him win his maiden singles title since 2019 while a win for Medvedev would see him clinch his second tournament in as many weeks.
