Madison Keys gives her opinion on trash talking during matches

American tennis player Madison Keys recently shared her perspective on Jessica Pegula's proposal to include trash talk during matches.

Keys secured a second-round victory against compatriot Hailey Baptiste 6-1, 6-2 in just 69 minutes at the 2023 Charleston Open. Following her victory, she sat down with Tennis Channel's Steve Weissman for a post-match interview.

During the conversation, the 28-year-old was asked about her thoughts on trash-talking during matches. She responded by saying that she was open to it, but if anyone tried to trash-talk her, she would simply laugh.

"I think it’s fine. I mean, it will definitely be interesting. I think I’d probably laugh if someone said something as we were crossing the net. I mean I’m for it especially if we mic it up. I think fans would like it too," she said

When asked about the best male and female players for trash-talking, Madison Keys responded that Victoria Azarenka would excel in this area. For ATP players, the list is simply too extensive for her to narrow down to just one.

"I feel like Vika has some good trash talk. I feel like she would be ready to just fire it all out. I feel like the list is very long for ATP [laughs]. Lots of trash talking already. I don’t know I’m not going to get anyone in trouble," Keys said.
