Maria Sharapova spills details about her stunning look for Moncler Genius show in London
Simple yet stunning was the way to go for Maria Sharapova for Monday night's high-profile Moncler Genius show, part of London Fashion Week. The 6'2" tall former tennis player joked that she was going to be seven-feet tall before slipping into sparkly black high heels along with the rest of her eye-catching outfit.
Sharapova shared details of her look for the event in an interview with leading fashion magazine British Vogue. The five-time Grand Slam champion flew from California, where she lives, to London to be part of the star-studded event.
"I’m going to be like seven feet tall," Maria Sharapova said with a laugh before the event.
She wore a little black dress highlighted by a trench coat for the fashion event. Sharapova revealed that her all-black look was inspired by a 1960s look from the famous French actor and superstar Catherine Deneuve.
"We’re doing a take on the trench coat and the little black dress. It’s slightly inspired by Catherine Deneuve in the ’60s – worn with very high sparkly black heels," the 35-year-old explained.
Sharapova kept things quite simple, yet elegant, when it came to her hair and makeup for the night.
"Just an extra touch of mascara on the eyes,” she conveyed. "A little bit of eyeliner."
The two-time French Open champion also expressed her admiration for famous fashion designer Rick Owens, whose collection as part of a collaboration with Moncler particularly interested the Russian superstar during the event on Monday.
"He has these amazing long pants that he makes in different materials and colours which I love because I’m so tall. He’s such a boundary-pusher too," Sharapova expressed.
Maria Sharapova meets Serena Williams at Moncler Genius event
Maria Sharapova ran into a very familiar face at the Moncler Genius show in London. Serena Williams was also one of the special guests at the event and Sharapova took to social media to post a 'reunion selfie' with her great rival from the past.
"Reunited," Sharapova captioned her Instagram story, as she and Williams posed for a picture.
Both Williams and Sharapova were known as fashion trailblazers on the pro tennis circuit back in their playing days and are taking the fashion world by storm post retirement as well. The Moncler event on Monday was not the first time they ran into each other at a high-profile fashion event. The duo also met at the 2021 Met Gala, where they were also joined by Venus Williams.
