Martina Navratilova gives Donald Trump "delusional" tag after former President's bizarre Herschel Walker claim

Martina Navratilova has called out Donald Trump once again. This time, the former World No. 1's swipe at the 2024 Republican presidential candidate came after he claimed that he would put former NFL player Herschel Walker in charge of a planned missile defense shield.

Walker's NFL career spanned over a decade, during which the running back represented the New Jersey Generals, Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants before finally ending his career with a second spell with the Cowboys. He later embarked on his political career and served Donald Trump from 2019 to 2020 as a co-chair on the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.

The 62-year-old's maiden political campaign came in the 2022 Georgia Senate election, where he lost to Raphael Warnock. Recently, Walker was in attendance at a Donald Trump rally in Georgia, the former NFL star's home state. During the rally, Trump claimed that there are plans in place to build a nationwide missile defense shield and that he would put Herschel Walker in charge.

"We will build a missile defense shield, all made in the USA—wrapped around our country to defend ourselves and our country. It’s all gonna be made in the United States, and a lot of it in your great state. We’ll put Herschel Walker in charge of that little sucker," Trump said.

Martina Navratilova caught wind of Trump's words via X (formerly Twitter) and proceeded to call the former President "delusional" over his claim of making Walker the chief of the planned missile defense shield.

"Omg. How delusional can one truly be?"

Navratilova was also appalled by Trump's recent remarks at a rally, where he blatantly targeted Barack and Michelle Obama.

Donald Trump recently criticized Barack Obama's handling of the US economy during the latter's eight-year spell as President. He further suggested that it was he who "took over" the situation and handled it. Trump also called Obama a "divider", and went on to chide Obama's wife, Michelle, who has been outspoken in the buildup to the 2024 elections about the prospect of Trump being re-elected.

Martina Navratilova refuted the 2024 Republican presidential candidate's claim about inheriting an economy in shambles via an X post, writing:

"The orange man inherited a great economy from Obama. And he still keeps lying about 2020 election knowing full well he lost…."

Navratilova herself is firmly backing Democrat candidate Kamala Harris to become the new US President. The Czech-American is one of several prominent names from the tennis world to have voiced support for Harris.
